i'm just wondering..why did she lose some point in the ranking..she made it up to the quarters in china last week..was her performance last year was better?..
and chakvetadze who lost in 2nd round added some points in her ranking...

just wondering :o

yes, in week 39 last year Daniela played the tournament in Luxembourg and lost the final. Those points came off now. She got 190 points from her final last year but only 70 for her QF this year. So she dropped 120 points. Chakvetadze on the other hand didn't earn any points in week 39 last year and all points gained this year went to the ranking.

The problem is that Daniela will loose loads of points from last year's season ending championships too...

Not to mention that maybe the main reason Dani rose so high
at WTA rankings in 2008, was the semi final at Australian Open.
She will have to defend these points too.
Of course, AO 2009 is still very far away, but it seems
that Dani will play top players at early rounds there...

After the Australian Open Daniela hardly has any points to defend next year so she'll have so many opportunities to gain points and improve her ranking. She only has significant points to defend at Indian Wells, but nothing on clay, only Wimbledon 2nd round on grass and very little in the North American hardcourt season. Daniela's ranking would be a lot higher if this year hadn't been blighted by illness and injury.

There has been a lot of mediocrity or parity, depending on your point of view, this year and I know that Daniela would be ranked much higher if she'd been fit and in form this year. Quite a few players have done well this year but without a dominant player or players like there has been in past years.
Serena hasn't played much but has done very well when she has: winning the US Open, Miami and being Wimbledon finalist; Jankovic has been extremely consistent consistently going on good runs but only winning two tournaments; Safina's played really well since the clay season started winning a lot of tournaments but Daniela beat her in Sydney; Shazza was in red hot form at the start of the year but did do much after Amelia Island and is injured and there have to be question marks about her long-term durability; Ivanovic played very well for the first half of the year and got to number one but she's been terrible since winning Roland Garros; Dementieva's been playing well and had great wins in Dubai and the Olympics but she's also had upsets and lost winnable matches, and Venus won Wimbledon again and is always dangerous but that's been her only final this year. Most of the other highly ranked players have either been solid without doing anything spectacular or have benefitted from having a few good runs but not much the rest of the time.

I really believe that as long as Daniela can have a good offseason and work on her game and fitness, she can do very well in 2009. Things will be tough in the short-term as she's still finding her form and has to defend a lot of points but long-term we can be optimistic.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

i agree with you chungwit. its obvious that Danka will lose a lot of points this year including first month next year if she did not defent her AO points. but if she will play really well next year that would be perfect!. she will add more point to her ranking because she did not play a lot of tournaments this midyear.
lets just hope and pray that Danka will continue to play her form before.. ;)

It is absolutely correct that from February and on, Dani will not have
to defend many points. But there is also something else.
If after the AO, Dani’s ranking is #24 or something like that,
she will have very difficult draws, even on lower Tier tournaments.
So, it’s a strange situation, less points to defend on one hand
but tougher draws on the other.
Of course, this is just speculations. Dani has 3 more tournaments left
in 2008 and she may earn a few points more.
Besides, if she finds her form, she may do well in the AO 2009.
We will see...

I think Daniela will rank out of the Top 20 after the deduction of SEC point.

Its a good news next year she don't have too much point to defend except SF at AO. However, I not quite understand the next year calendar. Can she play a lot of tournament and gain a lot of point from it??

Yeah while she was out injured I was thinking that but if she doesn't gain more points then her ranking is going to continue to drop which means when she enters grand slam tournaments or tier 1 tournaments her 1st round draws will be much more difficult like today.

For me the rankings was always really important imo for Daniela, but right now they arent so much. We know and Im sure that she knows her ranking will gradually slip as she has a lot of points to defend but as long as Daniela has the determination to rack those points up again she will be back there and in amongst the top ten soon enough. Like i said on the Stuttgart thread, for the time being we all just need to be patient

There is one thing come in my mind...
Some question for Daniela Fans...

1. If she continue to losing point, her ranking will slip together right??
So, this will mean that Daniela will drop until below Top 20??

2. She will have a tough draw next year??

3. She will lose her title as Top Slovakia Player to Dominika Cibulkova right??

:? :?

Answers:

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. Quite likely depending on whether Domi can maintain so sort of form.

Its a sad state of affairs but considering that this is Daniela's first major injury break its not surprising, the draws will be alot tougher next year but if Daniela is sensible and fits in some smaller tournaments she may be able to build her ranking up bit by bet, get better draws more confidence, more wins and eventually her ranking will improve to were we feel she belongs

Bartoli and Cornet lost, so they're not getting any points from this tournament. But Daniela has to gain points herself. She'd have a lot more if she hadn't missed tournaments through illness and injury this year and next year, she'll have so many chances to gain points without having any to defend.

I like Daniela being Slovak no. 1, but if Dominika goes ahead ahead of her it's because Dominika's done well and had good results. It's up to Daniela to do better but the important thing is to get points for her world ranking because that's what matters. Jankovic was Serbian no. 2 when she was no.2 in the world.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.
