It's a pretty reasonable draw. You never know with qualifiers but Daniela should be able to win that easily enough and she's got a great record against Dominguez Lino and Kudryatseva. Peng's the likely quarter-final opponent. There are some decent players in the second quarter and anyone that gets to the semi-final will be playing well and confident but so will Daniela and then it's the final. It's a great opportunity for Daniela, she's top seed and she'll be confident after Charleston so she can do really well here, but she has to focus on the first match and she can't overlook any opponent.

We'll see what happens and Daniela should do well here but we just have to take things one match at a time.

Daniela's just playing singles this week as she's not in the doubles draw.

1R Daniela vs Voracova

I've heard this name quite a few times but no idea how Voracova plays. I don't know why but the name scares me...I think it will be a tough first round for Daniela.

Voracova's best result this year was beating Sofia Arvidsson in Australian Open qualifying. She also beat Arvidsson in Linz qualifying last year. Her best results last year were beating no 59 Begu in Palermo and no 78 Tatashvili in ITF Versmold, both on clay.

Voracova's got to be respected as she's had a few wins here but as long as Daniela plays well she should win easily enough.

Anyone Dani faces scares me! And, if you root for her opponent, you'd be scared of Dani, too!
This is the second straight event in which there is no Doubles Partner of the Week. You think Lundgren is encouraging Daniela to cut down on doubles play? Wouldn't surprise me.

BTW, I just made a donation to the Daniela Foundation. If you live in the UK, it's easy. Otherwise, waterboarding is not as tortuous!

Let's Go, Daniela!

Sometimes you have to win ugly and that's exactly what Daniela did!! 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Was dreading that this could have been a repeat of last year against Pouchkova to lose 7-5 but this time thankfully turned it around.

Hope there are highlights on youtube somewhere as that looked like a huge battle. Daniela will have to play so much better to beat Lino on clay.

This was one of those matches were Daniela had to dig in and battle and win however she could. I didn't see it so I can't say if Daniela was bad or if Voracova played well but this was all about getting the win and that's what Daniela did. I've just had a look at the stats and Daniela actually faced more BPs but she broke Voracova 5 times out of 8, while she saved 6 of the 10 BPs she faced. Daniela came through on the clutch points.

It's the first time this year that Daniela's come back from a set down to win so that's something and a lot of time when she's had a really tough match she's improved a lot in her next match.

Svitolina, the no. 2 seed, lost so this is all about getting the win.

This means that Daniela can enjoy her birthday tomorrow.

We were not informed that the Marrakech Express was the world's largest thrill ride! :D
Cue up Molly Hatchet……Daniela certainly was Flirting With Disaster!
This was a real Maalox match. She was constantly in trouble almost all the way through, and as eddy said, much like her loss last year. Quite frustrating at times. However, what it boils down to is that there were two times in the match where Dani had to be the better/far more experienced/#1 seeded player facing an inexperienced foe.……at the beginning of the second set and at 4-5 at the end. And she was. That leaves me feeling good about it. A nice way to finish her final match as a 30 year old. Happy Birthday, Dani!

Let's Go, Daniela!

1st set to Dani, 7-5. Just like yesterday, she fell behind 4-5 and swept the next three games, breaking Lourdes twice, clinching the set on the first break/set point. Keep it going!
Now up 5-2 in 2nd. Finish her, Dani!
Yeah! Birthday Girl!
Daniela broke Lourdes the last 6 times. She gave a couple of them back early in the 2nd, but at 4-2 she held to love and then ended it. Nice present for us, young lady!
So she's now 7-0 against Lourdes (14-1 in sets), and in each match she won a set where she had to win 7 games to do it. Hmmm……what would her number of titles be if she wins here?

Let's Go, Daniela!
