Really don't think she had recovered from the leg injury in Brisbane. It looked so gnarly watching it live. And,as eddy pointed out,Morita has been in fine form during the qualifying tournament.

Pray for a decent draw in Melbourne. :|

I was so excited after her Errani win, and now this.

It is rather worrying that already in the first couple of tourneys of the year she is injured. It does not bode well for the rest of the year. I hope she can make a comeback to form; but injuries might not let her, and Daniela needs time (lots) to get into rhythm.

Depressing and dispiriting. Daniela started so well but then Morita fought back. After Daniela beat Errani things were looking good for her after coming through a tough 3 setter against a top 10 opponent but then she gets hurt and lost to players that she'd beat when fit.
Morita had momentum from having some good wins in qualifying so she'd feel confident. It's worrying that Daniela lost the last 3 games in the second and third sets or that she didn't win a second point serve in the second set.
I'm trying to weigh up what's the better or least bad option between Daniela being hurt or healthy here. If she was injured then perhaps that contributed to her loss here but she could still carry an injury into the Australian Open or she could be fit but still lost and that doesn't really fill you with confidence for the Australian Open. I'll look for the silver lining and hope that she can rest up and prepare for the Australian Open and go into that fully fit.
Her ranking will go down even more after this and chances are she'll have to go through qualifying for a lot of premiers or else enter internationals instead. A good run in Melbourne is essential.

I really wish that Daniela had kept Liptak as her coach as she was playing some of her best ever tennis under him. Liptak's now coaching Cibulkova and she thrashed Kvitova 6-1 6-1. An even bigger mistake was replacing Liptak was Pistolesi who was a disaster. If Daniela had gone back to Sanchez Casal in 2011 thing would have been a lot better. Nicolas was her coach won she won Indian Wells and Linz in 2007 and she's had a lot of success with him, hopefully she'll have a lot of success with him in future. Daniela's resilient and she shown her fighting spirit and determination so many times in the past and I'm sure she'll do so again.

Daniela and Goerges also got beaten in the doubles but it's less of a shock as Srebotnik and Petrova are two of the best doubles players. We'll see who her partner is at the Australian Open.

Thanks for doing the live scores, eddy.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

We were all taught in our youth that if you don't have anything goood to say about someone or something, don't say anything at all. Ergo, I have nothing to say about this. With 1 exception: %^@%^%~&_%^^&%&$~_&~&%*_^%)!!!!

Turn the page, Dani.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Definitely agree that the silver lining is that she can work on her game and get as fit as possible between now and next week.

I don't think rankings matter at the moment. If Daniela has a deep run (ie 4th round or better-i know im dreaming) at the Australian open then she'll be right back up in top 40 again so Daniela's just got to give everything in Melbourne. Of course a lot will depend on the draw, but most of the big names are looking vulnerable so far this year, so if she does get a top 8 player in the first or second round then an upset is possible. Also no player likes the first round of a grand slam and I don't think many players would like to face Daniela in round one.

I just hope she keeps being coached by Sanchez Casal, period. They can get her through this, I believe. What is her ranking at the moment?

You know, guys, I don't care if Dani draws Serena first in Melbourne, or Chrissie, or even Suzanne Lenglen. All I want is that, for the remainder of her career, she never draws a lucky loser or qualifier again. EVER!!!

Let's Go, Daniela!

Well Daniela won the first set 6-1 but the difference being Danielas game fell apart afterwards..apparently she couldn't keep the ball in court in the last two sets according to those that watched on twitter.

According to Twitter, Daniela is playing doubles at the Oz Open with Medina Garrigues. Not a bad combo considering Medina just won Hopman and was the stand out player.

Daniela played with Medina Garrigues in New Haven. They lost to Hlavackova & Hradecka in the first round but they're one of the best teams and Daniela & Medina Garrigues were competitive. Daniela & Medina Garrigues could be a good team and it would be great if Daniela could go on a run in Melbourne. We'll see if this is just for the Australian Open or if it's longer term.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Daniela just needs a big run in a big tournament, please let the Australian Open 2013 be it..I'm seriously begging to the heavens right now.

Srebotnik/Petrova won Sydney, so Daniela and Goerges lost to the winners..
