(1)Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) v BYE
Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK) v Qualifier
Zuzana Ondraskova (CZE) v Anastasia Rodionova (AUS)
Andrea Hlavackova (CZE) v (15)Barbora Zahlavova Strycova (CZE)

(9)Maria Kirilenko (RUS) v Varvara Lepchenko (USA)
Qualifier v Jelena Dokic (AUS)
Jie Zheng (CHN) v Qualifier
(6)Yanina Wickmayer (BEL) v BYE

(3)Jelena Jankovic (SRB) v BYE
Tamira Paszek (AUT) v Melanie Oudin (USA)
(wc)Shelby Rogers (USA) v Jill Craybas (USA)
Chanelle Scheepers (RSA) v (13)Patty Schnyder (SUI)

[b:yqj9esv0](10)Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) v Alla Kudryavtseva (RUS)[/b:yqj9esv0]
Petra Martic (CRO) v Evgeniya Rodina (RUS)
Qualifier v Christina McHale (USA)
(8)Alisa Kleybanova (RUS) v BYE

This one definitely snuck up on me because of the doubles in Miami, but there is a good chance for points here. The draw is amicable early on and Charleston's clay is faster than most, which presumably plays into Daniela's favor. Good luck.

I would rather not expect much... But this is quite a good draw. So If Daniela is not tired and is fit, she could do well. We will see.

Charleston points won't come off until next week as Charleston was a week later last year...

Really hope she can make at least quarter-final here, but at least Daniela is aware that the quick change onto green clay is going to be a challenge. She generally plays better when she takes the pressure off herself.

At least after Charleston she has no points to defend at all until Roland Garros.

I know some of you are going to watch Daniela play Fed Cup but I wish she'd take a break this year from it.

Well, I don't. Cos this is the first time I'm going to see Daniela playing live :D

I understand that you would like her to rest for another tournament. But still Daniela loves playing for her country, so this is not an option for her, I think.
:)

Edit:

Wow, I haven't noticed that. Doubles with Maria Kirilenko? That will be a pretty good looking team there :D

I'd have liked Daniela to have had a little bit more between Miami and Charleston to practice and prepare. That would ease the transition between hardcourt and clay. Still it's not too far to travel and there less difference between the conditions and courts in Miami and Charleston than there is between pretty much any other hardcourt and clay tournaments. As long as Daniela's fit and healthy she should be able to win the first few matches although it is a different surface and Kudryavtseva beat Shazza at Wimbledon a few years back, so she can't be overlooked and Daniela has to focus on beating her first. Just take things one match at a time and make sure there isn't a let down after the doubles in Miami.

"Next week is going to be a challenge for me, going from hardcourts to clay, but that's the way tennis works sometimes," the Slovak commented. "I'm not expecting too much but will give it my best shot. But first I'm going to enjoy this win before I shift to next week!"

Daniela's got a lot of points to defend here so it's important that she puts in a good run here. She should be able to win her first few matches. After this she has the chance to gain points all the way to Roland Garros.

Kirilenk's a decent partner to have in the doubles as she's done well with Azarenka and got to the Australian Open final and she won a couple of tournaments last year.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

You'll love watching daniela play marek! It's something as a daniela fan you have to experience! I first saw her in practice at eastbourne 2006 but the first time I watched her play live was Wimbledon 2008 1st round against errani. It was so amazing! Hope she's fit healthy and of course hope you see her win!

Not an easy opener for Daniela in my opinion. Kudryavtseva has caused some upsets in the past, and Daniela hasn't exactly had much time to prepare for the tournament (or the clay). I'd say there's a good chance of a three-setter here.

If she can find her stride and get through this opener then she'll certainly have a very good chance against Rodina in the second round.

The weather is going to be pretty bad today so Daniela may not get on court today. That may be to daniela's advantage so she can have a bit of a rest. Tomo onwards the weather will be great.
