It's a confidence thing with Daniela. If she feels she's playing well she will venture to the net more frequently. And lets face it,if she's playing badly,her volleys and smashes can be horrendous to watch.

I think her Spanish coaches also taught her not to approach the net and to try and win points through baseline rallying alone.

In a post-match interiew Daniela said she had a cold and respiratory problems. During night before her yesterdays match she woke up wet and sweaty, then she found out she had 38C/cca 100F fever. Doctor told her to lay in bed for 10 days.
She was asked whether she was going to withdraw from doubles and said no, that she couldn't do it to Sugiyama. Added that she didn't know how she won yesterday.A really horrid temperature is about 40C. 38 isn't going to be pleasant,but you can deal with it. I do hope she's alright for tomorrow.

Sugiyama is playing shockingly well so far with very few errors. Ai has looked awfully old this year (2-9 versus the top 50), so I would expect that to change soon. Too bad I have to leave for work now.
