It's just my impression or the official website has not been updated in a long time ?
The entry rankings are from 27th January and the qualifying draw is yet to be posted .

As a side note. I can't remember the reason why the Williams sisters never play at Indian Wells. Anyone care to fill me in?

in 2001, Serena and Venus were to play each other in the SF. Right before the match, Venus withdrew citing injury (foot or something). During the final (Serena vs Clijsters) the audience booed big time when Venus and her dad entered the player's box and they kept on booing throughout the match.
Richard afterwards blamed it on the fact that they are black and thus unwanted in the rich white neighborhood that Indian Wells is.
This issue has been discussed so much in GM on tennisforum.com lately, and some guy uploaded about 5 minutes of the match so all could see and hear the booing:

Back to Danka:
yes my list of who I would like for her to avoid in R32 is longer than my list of who I want her to meet too, but that is only natural given Danka's recent results and that it is the top8 we are talking about.

Whoa, i didn't realise something this drastic happened. Kinda horrible.

I'm kinda looking forward to Daniela facing a top 10 player. It'll be a good bench mark for where her game is at. It's like someone else mentioned. I think she's in a position to start winning some big games. Let's hope it happens here :D

EDIT: I probably should have said "if she makes it to a top ten player" or something, lol.

true, it is always exciting to see matches against top10 since the top10 consists of the best and most consistent, and the top10 is a place we would like to see Daniela in again. However, if she meets Vera I am not so sure it will give us much.

[6]Ivanovic - Bye
Qualifier - Qualifier
Mattek-Sands - Garbin
[31]Dulko - Bye
[20]Sugiyama - Bye
[WC]Tomljanovic - Qualifier
Koryttseva - [WC]Mirza
[12]Pennetta - Bye

[15]Zheng - Bye
Qualifier - Dushevina
Morita - Vinci
[23]Bammer - Bye
[30]Hantuchova - Bye
Rybarikova - Wickmayer
Qualifier - Qualifier
[3]Dementieva - Bye

That's Daniela's quarter of the draw. Dementieva is arguably the best player in this field (Jankovic and Safina could argue), so that's a real lousy draw. It could have been an easier second round draw as well (look at Ai's or Elena's), but I would favor Daniela over either player. So, it's not a good draw, but overall she has been very fortunate with draws this year, so I really can't complain.
Given the fact that Daniela hasn't beaten a top 20 player in over a year, it's a bit silly to think she's getting past Dementieva. But in the unlikely case that she does, Zheng (easily the weakest player in the top 20, attributable to the rankings' over-reliance on slam performance, see Shahar Peer last year) or Bammer do not scare me.

bad draw. Dementieva is so in form this year. So I don't think Daniela will get passed the R32. R64 difficult as well. Rybarikova isn't a bad player at all.

Of course Rybariova is a tough opponent and she will beat Wickmayer in the first round. Daniela versus Magda might be a very interesting match!

Very harsh draw in my oppinion, predominantly because Dementieva is almost certainly going to reach the round 32. Out of all the the entrants I didn't want Daniela to meet Dementieva or Zvonareva and its happened! At least we can see how Daniela performs against one of the form players of the past 12 months.
Dementieva aside though, this is actually an ok draw, with an out-of-form Ivanovic in the top half of Daniela's quarter, who could potentially fall to Pennetta in the quarter-finals. Jankovic is also in relatively poor form, so it really is a shame that Daniela has drawn Dementieva.

@ pmrd44 - I definately don't think Zheng is the weakest player in the top-twenty right now. She has been fairly consistent and when she's on form can challenge most of the top-ten players, and sometimes win. I would say Medina-Garrigues or Schnyder are the weakest players in the top-twenty right now.

@ BlueDragon - Wickmayer is no easy opponent either, and I think she has a very good chance against Rybarikova. I don't think we can presume it will be Daniela v Magdalena in the R64.

yeah , Dementieva is though but all players have bad days and bad tournaments , lets "hope" that Elena is one of that
Quite hard draw but Daniela proved that she can suprise anyone at Indian Wells .

Sometimes its very difficult to predict the next opponent. I mean, do you remember
what happened at Dubai ? We all thought that it was going to be Chakvetadze
at second round but it was Morita. And at round 3, we were all sure that it was
going to be Safina but - surprise ! - it was Razzano.
Not that Daniela took advantage of that anyway...
Yes, i agree that Dementieva will probably reach easily
the third round but you never know.

It may sound as a contradiction but even if i consider Wickmayer as an easier
opponent for second round, i would like to see Daniela play v Magda.
Let alone the fact that it will probably be a very good match, i am very
curious to see how Daniela will react against a player who is considered
to be ( with Domi of course ) her "successor" in Slovak tennis...

I'm not a fan of this draw at all. Like many of you have said, Dementieva is one of the in-form players this year, so far, and no doubt, her second round opponent, whoever she meets, will be tricky as well.

Oh well, Daniela had relatively easy draws so far and couldn't take advantage. Maybe with a tough draw she can do wonders. There certainly isn't that much pressure on her anymore, so hopefully she can play freely.

i hope magdalena beat wickmayer , but to bad she have to face daniela in round 2, they are close on the ranks aswell , maybe magdalena can be player number 2 before wimbledon if daniela keep playing like the last months

From the beginning of this season, Daniela has received so many easy draws, which she didn't take advantage of to build up her ranking. So the result of that comes now, hard draw against top player right in early round. I don't think we can complain about that. And about that draw, I personally don't think her second round match is that easy. Either of her possible opponents is in good or ok form recently. Only if Daniela can play well, she will pass them. Otherwise it is difficult. I just hope this tournament will bring her extra motivation to do well. I hope to see her again on TV.
