Anne Keothavong has lost in the first round of the women's doubles at the US Open. Anne and her Russian partner Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova lost to Lucie Safarova and Mara Santangelo in straight sets; 6-3 6-4.

Complete focus on the singles now for Keothavong. She is currently trailing Russian Elena Dementieva 6-3 5-4* in the third round of the singles.

Anne is out of the Open, losing to Elena Dementieva by the same scoreline as the doubles match last night.
She had a break advantage in the second set, leading 4*-3, but could not capitalise, losing the last three games of the match.
It's a shame Anne could not take this match to three sets but it has been a great effort from her this past week and she can take alot away from her three singles matches.

Very satisfying to see Anne on Sky Sports competing with the top women on the WTA Tour.

She should now head off to Asia (where there are plenty of tier III and IV events) with a great deal of confidence.

I wasnt able to see the match but from what I read it sounded like experience told in this encounter with Anne unable to capitalise on the break oppotunities that she had. Its a been a good week though for Anne and she should take a lot of heart from this week and take that confidence into the indoor season

Anne Keothavong is into the qualifying draw for the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament in Tokyo, Japan. She's seeded seven, but is in the same section as top seed Katarina Srebotnik. You know a tournament is high profile when a player ranked 26 in the world has to go through qualifying to get into the main draw. She has a fairly comfortable first round match against Japanese player Erika Takao (WTA 279):
1R - Erika Takao 6-3 6-2
2R - Greta Arn 4-6 6-1 6-4
3R - Katarina Srebotnik[1] 6-3 6-3

A great opportunity for Anne to gain some decent ranking points this week. 10 points are available just for getting to the second round of qualifying, and 20 points are awarded to a qualifier. She may be able to trouble Srebotnik if both players get to the final stage, but just a run through to the final round of qualifying (justifying her seeding) and picking up 15 points along the way, would be a reasonable week for the British number 1. However, I'm sure on the basis of her US Open performance she will want to do better than that and reach the main draw of a tier I event for the first time in her career.

Melanie South is also into the qualifying draw for this tournament, but faces much tougher opposition in the opening round in number four seed Alexsandra Wozniak of Canada, ranked 42 in the world:
1R - Alexsandra Wozniak[4] 6-3 6-2
2R - Vania King
3R - Kimiko Date Krumm[WC]

Not expecting much from South this week. A very tough draw for the Brit.
