She's actually played Chan twice, in Kolkata and Bali in 2007 and 2008. One match went 3 sets..it's going to be tough..

Doubles draw is now out:

1r Hantuchova/Medina(16) vs Stosur/Goerges

Well that couldn't be much worse, so much for being seeded...

Seriously though US OPEN 2012 disaster is definitely possible

Are there floodlights on outside courts if play goes on late?

Not a great draw in the doubles. Although Daniela & Medina Garrigues are seeded, seedings don't really matter that much in doubles unless it's one of the top teams as so many of the teams are new teams. It's a tough draw so we'll see what happens there. Stosur's form in Australia really hasn't been good this year or last but she's a good doubles player as is Goerges.

A big concern I have is that Daniela is playing after Karlovic and his match is likely to last for ages as most of his sets go to tie-breaks. He hardly ever gets broken but he rarely breaks serve so chances are that match will last for a long time so that could affect Daniela's preparation for her match. The last two US Opens it looked like the mens match before hers was going to finish but then there was a fightback and what looked like being a quick match ended up being a long match. I really don't like her being last on an outside court. The important thing is that she's fully fit, focused and plays her best tennis.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

I can't remember us ever so united in our sense of dread. Thankfully for me, whenever and whereever this match is played (always the chance it could be moved if things really get backed up), it will take place in the middle of the night here in New York. Gosh, would I love to wake up tomorrow and see that Daniela won, and even better, that she just whaled her opponent.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Shazza just crushed Puchkova 6-0 6-0 so I'll take it as a sign that Daniela's form's decent enough to be able to win 4 games in the exhibition. I just hope her form is amazing later on.

First men's match done in just over two hours..the courts seem to playing so slow!
I'm off for some sleep and will awake hopefully in time to follow her match albeit shitty livescores.
Here we go then..i'm very nervous..
Chan serving:
Chan holds after several deuces 0-1
Chan breaks to love, oh god 0-2
Chan holds to 15 0-3, what an awful start...0-4..0-5 I don't know what to say..
1-5 wow she's won a game, i'm still speechless..
1-6 in half an hour

If Daniela can just get off to a good start in the 2nd set she can turn this around..comon Daniela..

Daniela holds after a lengthy first game, 1-0, wow in a blink of an eye Daniela 5-0 up..very long break, must be medical timeout..hope these arent tactics from Chan if it is her taking the timeout..as Daniela was in full momentum
Play has resumed..Chan holds so Daniela serving for the 2nd set 5-1.
Kinda wish Daniela had bagelled Chan, would much rather Daniela be serving first in the 3rd..however get the 2nd set done Daniela. 6-1 Daniela

3rd set shoot out..Chan serving first..comon Daniela get a good start here.
1-4 down this is so sad, how can it keep going wrong all the time..I don't know where Daniela can go from here.
1-5 it's over, maybe Daniela's had her time :(
Chan defeats Daniela 6-1 1-6 6-1, I'm so upset right now, don't know what to do or say.

Daniela needs to stop hitting with Sharapova before slams, everytime she does she loses 1st round..Indian Wells, US Open and now here.
If she doesn't defend her title in Pattaya then she's out of the top 80..
Looking at that Australian Open semi-final 2008 really should have been Daniela in the final - I think life was very cruel that day.

Wow, this is a very sad result. It is obvious her game is not there for more than a set and she is gonna have an uphill battle to regain some of it. So that is that for this AO singles run.

She must be horribly discouraged.

Too depressing for words.

She couldn't really have asked for 3 better draws either. Got to get her head back in the game-maybe a slump in the rankings will prove the necessary kick up the backside.

I'm stunned and numb. I really don't know what to say about this. Daniela's lost in the first round of the past three slams she's entered, it's just so shocking and upsetting. God knows what it must be like for Daniela. This is going to be a huge test of her desire and resilience.

Hantuchova, currently 44th in the rankings, paid the price for poorer efficiency in key moments: has utilized only 2 of 10 brejkbaly, grueling 4 of 7 advantage of such opportunities.

"Start me utterly failed. I played terribly carefully and I did too many mistakes. In the second set, I relaxed and I went into it as I should - I immediately led 5-0. SUPERKOV was then allowed to treat, which disrupted my rhythm, but something I can not complain, I have to be accustomed to the players to do. In the third set I had a chance at the beginning. Too bad it did not work. Then I turn zopatrnela, it certainly was not all in my imagination. SUPERKOV played solid, but - frankly - nothing has somehow not surprised. She played exactly what I expected - hard Asian tennis. For my part, but this performance was not what I should show off the Grand Slam. Of course I am disappointed, but I have to forget it and continue working," said Daniela Hantuchova in the conference phone for the Slovak news agency.

"I took anti-inflammatory medications that I'm a little blunt injury. On the court, I feel good today. Foot problems did not affect the fact that I lost," she said D. Hantuchova.
@ google translate.

Hantuchova after losing to Ch'an-Yun Tian, previously at tournaments in Asia in 2007 and 2008, twice defeated, did not hide its disappointment. "Start me absolutely details came out, I played very carefully and did I wasted a lot of mistakes. Following the first set I was released, I told you that I have nothing to lose. Blow to everyone I went full as I was, and I quickly built lead 5:0. then you had to call grueling physical therapist, which disrupted my rhythm. toys, however, in these situations tend to do. third set at the beginning I missed brejkbaly again and I started playing too carefully what I vypomstilo. SUPERKOV me anything not surprised. was played solid, so typical hard Asian tennis. On such a big tournament like the Australian Open, should give a much better performance as I am today showcased me. recent health problems are certainly not signed by today's result. Took I-inflammatory drugs that blunt the pain on the court and I feel good. I'm disappointed, but I have to lose this soon forget and move on," Hantuchova said in a conference call with the Slovak media.
@ google translate.

Chan was 4/7 on break points, Daniela was 2/10, 0/5 in the first set 2/4 in the second & 0/1 in the third. First serve stats were about the same but Chan won 57% of second serves but Daniela won only 41% on second serve. That's the difference in the match.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

So she is still injured. I think Daniela should (I bet she is) thinking her career strategy. She cannot rinse and repeat past training and yearly schedule, her body is much more fragile nowadays.

Gosh, she might be playing qualies soon :(

Well one positive is that she's not despairing just yet. She knows she screwed up the first set but it's quite obvious that Chan's medical timeout when Daniela was leading 5-0 was a tactical move knowing that Daniela is a rhythm player. Obviously I haven't got concrete proof but something definitely fishy..

Maybe this early loss means Daniela can rest up and recuperate in time for the next set of tournaments. I really couldn't see Daniela beating Ana anyway to be honest as Ana was really good today.

To be honest eddy,I think it was the failure to break at the start of the third that really mattered-those present at the match say her returning was atrocious when it really mattered, and she probably got down on herself afterwards.

Guys, at least we all knew this was coming. Deep down, we all knew that Daniela's foot will never stop bothering her, and that, plus the other injuries that she's had and will get will be a factor. As long as she chooses to play singles and still believe she can be relevant, this is what we're going to get. The occasional wonderful win over a top 10 like Errani 2 weeks ago, maybe a good run here or there in a tourney, maybe one more Pattaya. And then there will be more of these 1st round losses to qualifiers. We are the most diehard fans Daniela has (just check the FB page today). It's easy for people who root for Serena or Vika or Sharapova, who never have to fear and often be crushed by 1st round matches. The real fans...that's us. I have mused before that if Dani still loves the sport and wants to stick around for a few more years, she might try to do it as a doubles specialist. She so obviously enjoys herself in doubles and doesn't self impose that extra pressure on herself. My eye will be more closely on her doubles results now than ever before, and it would be very nice if she can stick with and click with one partner. It's her life; I'll never stop rooting for her, so I'll live with whatever direction she goes. Long as Daniela's happy.

Let's Go, Daniela!

If she doesn't defend her title in Pattaya then she's out of the top 80..

She is not playing pattaya, according to
And not playing paris...probably she wants to focus on fed cup tie against serbia, where she will be not able to win a set against ivanovic and not even against jankovic...really sad...

DANIELA HANTUCHOVÁ * MARIA SHARAPOVA * DOMINIKA CIBULKOVÁ * SERENA WILLIAMS * ANNA KAROLÍNA SCHMIEDLOVÁ * ANA IVANOVIC
ROGER FEDERER * DAVID FERRER * ANDY RODDICK * PAUL-HENRI MATHIEU * LLEYTON HEWITT
