It's a decent enough draw. Daniela thrashed Makarova when they played Paris indoors in 2009. Makarova played very well in Australia, beating a lot of good players including Serena Williams. Daniela can definitely beat Makarova but Makarova's a solid player who's had good wins this year and she's at least as good as some of the players who've beaten Daniela recently. She's in the semis in Seoul so she's playing well but she could have a letdown in Tokyo or ride the momentum. It's a tough match but winnable.

Wozniacki's also in the Seoul semis and she beat Daniela at the Olympics but she hasn't had that great a year overall. She'd still be a tough opponent

If Daniela gets through to the third round then she'd probably play Li Na or Pavlyuchenkova.

We'll just have to take it one match at a time. Daniela can put in a good run here but all the players she's due to play are capable of beating her. We'll see which coach she's working with, whether it's someone from Sanchez Casal or someone else. New coach, new start.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Sometimes I feel that when I watch Daniela on TV or closely follow the live score on the Internet I'm jinxing her. Ergo, I want her 1st round match to be in the middle of the night here in New York! It would be nice to awaken to good news!

Let's Go, Daniela!

I do not know if it is unrealistic to expect a win over Makarova. Daniela is in dire form and well, Makarova is not.

Still hoping for a surprise, though.

I note that Dominika is in this tourney. Daniela seems to be listening to us. She finally dumped the coach; now I hope that this shows that we have seen the last of the Dani/Domi doubles team, which just wasn't working.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Ohhhhh, yeah! I guess it was better that there was a rain delay and I was awake to check out the ending of this one! :D Career win #480 was a long time coming, but this is quite encouraging indeed. Big points went her way in the 3rd. It's a win over a higher ranked player who was in form, and that hasn't happened for awhile. And it's a win after a rain delay, which hasn't happened since dinosaurs roamed the earth! Hope that Daniela's starting a turnaround in Tokyo!!

Let's Go, Daniela!
