SI.com: Why do grass courts give you so much trouble?

Cibulkova: To tell you the truth, the grass is not really my favorite surface because I have no chance to practice on grass courts. We don't have even one grass court in Slovakia. Last year, I lost [in the first round] to a girl [Zheng Jie] who played in the Wimbledon semis. Thank God there are only two or three tournaments on grass. The week before Wimbledon is my yearly practice.

Slovak unit has not thought a moment or an alternative that would still play at the U.S. Open. "Fracture was evident, it still hurts me as if it happened to me. It would be pointless to risk and it would be wise," she Cibulkova. Already started to feel pain in the match with the Russian Aliso Klejbanovovou 2nd round at last week's tournament in Toronto, which lost in the tragic, almost three hours struggle, the six unused matchpoints.

Yet on Sunday, said: "In the past, I have no problems of this type did not. The first time I have felt recently at Stanford and it was so special. I am not aware that I would hit somewhere or received such intervention ball. Later it passed when I was a little rozhýbala, but the end game in Toronto against Klejbanovovej the problem returned. hurt me initially and at rest. Now, although only the load, which means that I can not even train. "

Where In The World is Dominika Cibulkova?

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia - While the tennis world focused on the city that never sleeps, one of the brightest young stars of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour wasn't anywhere near the spotlight. Dominika Cibulkova, a semifinalist at the French Open and a Top 20 fixture over the last year, was suffering from a right rib injury that forced her to pull out of the US Open, as well as the Pilot Pen Tennis a week before the season's final Grand Slam tournament.

Cibulkova is back on the courts however, and getting ready to make her return. Last Thursday, she took the practice courts of the National Tennis Center in Bratislava with her longtime coach, Vladimir Platenik. It was a light, short hit.

"It was a great feeling. I hadn't had a racquet in my hand since the week of New Haven, so it was like something new," Cibulkova told the Slovak press. "I was worried something would still feel wrong with my rib, but my doctor told me I should try it carefully, and everything went well and without pain. I don't want to say it's absolutely fine though, because you never know with injuries.

"The question is, how long will it take to get back to full form. My goal is to be ready for Moscow this month. I'm really out of my rhythm now and I have to make sure I don't push it too hard under this motivation I'm feeling. I'm a positive person and I'm really inspired to get back, but it can be dangerous."

Cibulkova has slipped to No.20 in the rankings, just two spots above a surging Daniela Hantuchova, her predecessor in the Slovak No.1 spot.

"I'm not playing so I'm falling in the rankings, that's normal," Cibulkova said. "The most important thing is to play injury-free the next few years. Next year I only have about four tournaments for serious points to defend, so I hope with steadier results I can get back to No.12 and even higher."
