I've been partying a lot lately so forgive me for not translating those articles. I wil try on Sunday when I can see myself being sober.Sorry for no progress in this, lot of things going on here. I rediscovered one of my old passions (it's not alcohol  ) and my enthusiasm for tennis is rather low now. Though as I see it, google translator made a valiant effort.

Seeds announced today for the Wimbledon Championships starting Monday. As expected Daniela is not among 32 seeded players (so far).

Stanford is one tournament which was really helped by the new WTA schedule. Before it lost a lot of top players on the count that it was close to Wimbledon and that there were two other, higher profile events in California that followed. This year, there is now a three week stretch between the Wimbledon final and Stanford. And the San Diego tournament is gone. So, no real surprise that it looks like it's going to have a strong field.

By the way, I wonder if Daniela will play any of the small tournaments in between Wimbledon and Stanford. She has little to no history at any of these events, but she would be looking at a four week break if she loses during the first week of Wimbledon.

7/6/2009 Budapest (220K), Bastad (220K)

7/13/2009 Prague (220K), Palermo (220K)

7/20/2009 Bad Gastein (220K), Portoroz (220K)

I dont personally understand why they have clay court events after the clay court season either, in the WTA or the ATP, whats the point? You'll find players in both mens and womens tennis who will do all they can to stay on clay till they are dragged kicking and screaming onto the hard courts. Im glad to see Daniela confirmed for Stanford, despite the tough entry list.

Montreal is also a Premier 5, but I doubt she'll play there as she plays 3 weeks in a row before Montreal

and off-topic, since when is Kim Clijsters playing for Aus?

Cincinnati is a better choice than Montreal as it has the fastest courts on the US Open Series, better weather, I would guess a weaker field because it just moved up in rank, and is more visitor-friendly than Montreal*.

*Aside: If you ever think of visiting Canada, see Toronto which is a great city and Niagara Falls. Montreal would not be on my to-do list, IMO.

I've been to both Toronto and Montreal actually. I've lived in Quebec City. I visited Toronto during Christmas and it was freezing, but beautiful. I liked the city a lot. I visited Montreal in April, but a hot April. I liked Montreal too. I found a really cool sports bar with cheap beer.

On ATP they usually have two swings going on at the same time, one on hard and one on clay to satisfy both groups of players.
WTA probably couldn't find any better place for these tournaments, moving the Slams would be too difficult. But at least top players get a chance to rest for a while to be fresh for the reminder of the season.

I am surprised Daniela isn't taking any wildcards.

This time Dani likely to train with Pat Etcheberry

July 10, 2009
The Tennis Week Interview: Pat Etcheberry

Pat Etcheberry: All the screaming about grunting at Wimbledon, let me tell you: I can document and I can show you how much more power a player can generate when he or she grunts. I can prove it through a computer program analysis. I can have you hit a forehand grunting and hit one without grunting and I can document to you that you will generate more power grunting than not grunting. The more you exhale, the more power you can generate. That’s why Olympic weight lifters grunt as they exhale when they lift and that’s why you see martial artists grunt when they throw a punch or a kick. I can document that. I was working on that this afternoon before we talked. I can prove every time that it helps you. The problem is when people hit the ball and scream and then keep screaming when the ball is on the other side of the net — that is not helping anyone and that upsets people. I have Hantuchova coming in next Wednesday and I will show her “You don’t scream now, but I can show you how to do it and show you how it can increase your power.”
