i don't understand that you are all suprised
this is happening since the 90's , it's very normal
every famous name does this, it would be stupid if daniela didn't do this

she asked money for the hopman cup 2006 aswell but she didn't got it and played in auckland.
And this fact is coming from Hrbaty

It doesn't matter that her ranking is low , she have a big name and she gets a lot of people to a stadium

The original source didn't exactly come across as the most neutral or impartial of sources and you have to wonder about the motives of whoever put this story out.

Every player would have a market value or going rate and as Daniela is a very popular player, she'd be able to command a fairly healthy fee and she'd be more in demand than a lot of higher ranked players.
Of course, others players would be able to command a lot more than her.
I've no idea what Daniela's normal fee would be and I'd image some tournaments would pay her quite a bit. This is just speculation on my part but probably Barcelona only offered a lot less than she could command elsewhere and less than other players that Daniela would normally get a higher fee than, so it wasn't accepted as it would lower her going rate and perhaps lower her fee for other tournaments. At the same time I can understand Barcelona not being willing to pay $50,000 given Daniela's current form and ranking and her record on red clay. Octagon would do any negotiating on behalf of Daniela. There are other Octagon clients there so who knows what went on with any negotiations between Octagon and Barcelona.

I'm a bit sceptical and cynical about things and there's only a very partial version of events out there. Daniela will probably maintain a dignified silence.

The Machiavellian side of my mind suggests that Daniela never had any intention of playing here. It would have been very awkward to return to the city whose tennis academy she has so recently ditched,not to mention the residence of her former coaches. Therefore she priced herself out of the market so to speak. I mean asking for 50,000 euros in the current economic climate and with her less-than-stellar clay-court record was utter madness. :roll:

Logically speaking,with her ranking in the toilet and Roland Garros looming in the near future,she should have played here. :dunno:

I expect Daniela to play Birmingham, Den Bosh and Wimby since she has a free week now. She should take every opportunity to make up for the points she lost at RG in order not to drop in the race too much. She was in top 20 prior to RG and needs to hang in there.

After RG Daniela will stay few days in Slovakia, Passos departed to South America for exhibition matches with Kuerten. She said she plans to play Birmingham, Hertogenbosch and Wimbledon. Source: stz.sk

Daniela's rank isn't sufficient for direct entrance to the main draw at Eastbourne and who knows whether she would get a WC. Besides, I think we've had enough early exits lately. Hertogenbosh is a much better event for her, courts are similar to those at Wimbledon and Daniela actually has a chance to get some wins there.

Grass is her best surface,right? Why would she dodge the best competition when she actually has a chance to post the big win she needs? Your argument contradicts all the repeated statements Daniela has ever made about testing her tennis against the best players.

She got a WC in 2004 when her ranking and form were a lot worse,she would surely get one again.

Maybe they don't give her enough appearance fee, maybe she doesn't like the crowd, maybe it's what Chungwit wrote, maybe WTA rules dictate that she must play a lower tier tournament, it can be pretty much anything. I only wrote my opinion on the whole thing.

Chungwits explanation is probably the correct one. If money was the issue,there is far more available in Eastbourne.Debatable whether grass is Daniela's best surfaceCertainly isn't indoors or hardcourts based on recent performances. :roll:

well she never really performed better on grass that other surfaces. She just really likes grass.

Win loss ratio grass from 98-06 = 26-17 = 60 %

win loss ratio all hard courts from 09 06 = 139-86 = 62 %

more or less the same
