It is a shame that Henin has retired, but it does give the others inside the top 5, 6, 7 something new to aim for, as it bunches up the top of rankings and now everyone can aim for the no'1 spot. It would take a miracle and some amazing performances for Daniela to reach the top spot but atleast its alot closer that it was before

At least Daniela stays in the top 10.

Unfortunatelly Sharapova gets n°1 again. Would rather see Ivanovic become the new n°1 one.

Same here. I knew Henin was firm but I was hoping for her to retire at the end of the season... at least after RG and Wimbledon.. the worst thing is that Sharapova might be n°1 for long... anyone but her please!!!
and Ivanovic perhaps is scared to become n°1.... losing in the first round is an excellent way to demonstrate she can become the leader :lol:

sharapova,ivanovic, i don't like them both , highest player on the rank i like now is daniela, so i don't really care anymore about number one lol.

It's good she stays a little bit longer top 10 but if the injury is really that bad, the day will come it's over (or at least for a while

)

I think the no.1 spot is open to Serena Williams now. I think she has a good chance of winning both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and if she does that she'll be so confident she will be winning just about everything she enters. She has been unlucky in the past two tier 1's to meet an in-form Safina and then get an injury. Otherwise she might have got to the final and maybe won both of them.

Well I have to admit that jankovic did a good job in trying to defend her points from last year.... even if Cornet helped her a lot. she's safe at n.3 for the moment

I was watching the rankings a few seconds ago because I didn't understand why she was at n.3 instead of 4. Then I noticed Justine's name was no longer on the list.
It's a bit sad.

yes the top ten looks very different without Justine, but her depature has made it very competitive now fo the top spot. Sharapova, Ivanovic and Jankovic are all really close, and Kuznetsova and Serena are not too far behind either.
The number 1 spot could change hands several times over the summer in my opinion... until Serena builds up her points and takes over.

i agree with adamjs about No 1.sharapova has the most chances to be No 1 at
the end of season.temporary danka is safe at 10.after french
we will know much more.
informatically danka will be out from top-10 after fo ,only if the players
behind her reach semis.not big chances to happen this
but the possibility there is

Good that Daniela only has 3R to defend. If she comes back from injury and isnt playing that well then it wont really matter as long as she wins a couple of matches. In my oppinion she should make the 3R despite her time out, and from there we'll have to wait and see, depends on draw. But at least her place in the top ten is fairly secure. Big ranking changes will come after Wimbledon.

like asj001 said, daniela really doesnt have many points to defend at RG, so that is a relief.

V.W. rank:8, 2007 (50-10) she collected 2375 points so far in 2008 (12-6) she has collected 676

i made this simple(crappy looking) table to show how many points daniela and the players around her have made this year and made last year. bartoli is in green because i do not think she wil be a threat this year (just look at her win loss record) and vera is in red because, well, she has already overcome the amount of points this year from last year! she is who people need to start looking out for!

sorry the table came out weird>>>the first numer is the rank, then 2007 win/loss record, then 2007 points, then 2008 win/loss record (so far), then 2007 points (so far)
