I saw the scoreline as I couldn't watch the match and I thought wow Daniela must have been trounced but watching the match it wasn't the case at all. Lots of the games went to deuce. The scoreline should have probably read 63 64 and I do admit that Daniela was second best today.

With regards to Daniela's form, I do think that she's playing well but her movement seems to have gone back a step though which is worrying.

One thing I don't understand is why Daniela still doesn't come to the net very often. I thought that was something she was aiming to do this year.

Claudio seems to be a very good coach, but the only thing I would have said differently to Daniela after the first set was to say that some weakness of Kanepi's. I know Kanepi was playing well but Claudio only mentioned what Daniela was doing wrong and I think it would have helped saying that Kaia's 2nd serve was there sometimes for the taking and her backhand stretched out wide was quite loopy to allow Daniela to come in and finish the point.

Of course I'm only a bystander but I think it's always good to remind a player of their opponents weakness as I think that keeps morale up.

Can't agree with you eddy. Daniela probably should have won her last service game, but she was getting destroyed otherwise in baseline rallies. She lost 9 games on the trot and that didn't flatter Kanepi. She had no BP opportunities and lost 19 out of 20 points at one stage in the match.

think daniela should have played a little more aggressive today. in the most time kanepi dictate the rallys.
also she plays 2-3 meters behind the baseline and not on the line and her movement wasn't the best. but these things claudio said to her during the break and also daniela know these things.

but like all others i wish her more playing at the net. maybe she will improve this in the next weeks, btw she is playing doubles with agnieszka in sydney.

i was really surprised how great she plays against kim, so onto sydney and melbourne

Ah yeah Benji I forgot about Kanepi's purple patch in the beginning of the 2nd set. The last few games were really close though.

Sydney is now a test to see how well (and quickly) Daniela rebounds from the Brisbane final. She's been given a very favourable draw in facing Vinci in the opening round, and it turns out it's also the player just above her in the acceptance list, so a chance to score a win against a similarly ranked opponent.
