If Daniela keeps on winning, they've got to show at least one of her matches eventually. Balls, lost the first set. Still, win the second and the supertiebreak. Broken in the 1st game of the second set from 40-15. 0-2, the other lot hold to love. 1-2, Daniela & Knowles hold to 15. 1-3, the other lot hold to 40. Daniela and Knowles are 0 of 9 on BPs, ZS & P 2 of 3. 2-3, Daniela & Mark hold from 0-40. 2-4, ZS & P hold from 0-30. 3-4. 3-5, ZS & P hold to 30. 3-6, Daniela & Mark are broken to 30. |

Meh, not the best birthday for Mark Knowles, his 40th so he's getting on a bit although life begins at 40 and all that. Agnieszka's a young buck, well actually a young doe, so hopefully Daniela will do better with her tomorrow. It might actually be televised. |

Wasn't pretty,but they got the job done. The girls raised their level in the third set-Daniela changing serving ends seemed to do the trick after being broken 3 times in the second. |

A good win in the end. Daniela and Agnieszka were pretty solid in the first set and the start of the second and I think if they'd broken at 3-1 for a double break they'd almost certainly have won in straight sets. Makarova & kudryavtseva held and Daniela and Agnieszka started to get a bit ragged and Daniela especially looked tired and jaded while Kudryavtseva made since nice shots. They tightened up in the third and were more focused and reduced the errors and were able to win the third easily enough. This is already Daniela's best doubles run at the US Open. It's Errani and Vinci next as they came from a set down to beat Dulko & Pennetta although I think Pennetta's singles exertions had a bit to do with the result. Another day, another epic tiebreak: Stosur 15- 17 Kirilenko last night and Djokovic 16-14 Dolgopolov today. |

There's water leaking through cracks on the court on Armstrong, so who knows when there's going to be play there. The matches there could get moved so that could impact Daniela's doubles match. It's astonishing that given how popular Daniela is that only one of her matches has been televised but the important thing is that she and Agnieszka gets into the semi and without delay. Who knows when this tournament is going to get finished. And another thing... Many Top Umpires Decide to Skip the Open By GREG BISHOP Published: September 6, 2011 This weekend, the men’s and women’s singles champions at the United States Open will take home at least $1.8 million each. The total prize money is a record $23.7 million. The tournament’s revenue is expected to exceed $200 million. Gold badge chair umpires, the highest-rated officials in professional tennis, the ones who work the most important tournaments and matches, make $250 each day at the Open. It is the lowest pay rate for any Grand Slam tournament. There are 26 such umpires. Twenty-four of them worked Wimbledon, but only 13 are here at the Open. A spreadsheet obtained by The New York Times showed that Wimbledon paid gold badge umpires £189, or about $306 daily. The French Open paid 190 euros (about $270), even for the tournament’s qualifying rounds, while the United States Open pays $185 a day for its qualifying rounds. At the Australian Open, gold badge umpires earn about $383 for each main draw day, and they make overtime if they work more than 10 hours, a perk none of the other Grand Slam tournaments provide. |

Roddick/Ferrer just got moved to 13, which was completely empty today. Maybe the USTA will learn from this (and having to put the cameras back on 17 for Isner) and just leave the cameras on all the courts for the full two weeks next year. (But probably not.) |
