Daniela and Sabine might well make a good pairing, if only now and again when their more regular partners are absent. They don’t have the easiest draw this week though, with a potential second round match with Toronto champions Huber/Raymond.

Elsewhere, Radwanska’s shoulder injury has got worse and she has withdrawn from the singles in Cincinnati. As a result, Jankovic moves to Radwanska’s former spot in the draw, and will play Benesova. Wickmayer becomes number 17 seed and moves to Jankovic’s old spot, and will play qualifier Jovanovski (relief for Jankovic there I’d imagine). Finally, Wickmayer’s former place in the draw is filled by lucky loser Jill Craybas, which will certainly please Kuznetsova.

I noticed on the updated race they haven't added Daniela's 70pts from toronto yet they've added everyone else's points!!! Daniela should be 16th in the race overtaking Kuznetsova with 2045pts but she's instead stayed on 1975pts yet it says she's done 19 tournaments which would include Toronto. Hope they rectify this!!

Patty, I wouldn't rely on ES.. The EPG says "recordings of the day", and coverage ends at 01:30. So I don't think they'll show Daniela's match today.. maybe tomorror morning?

Any stream?

Nice start 5-0 in 16 minutes

Lino holds and breaks, why is Daniela starting to make this complicated? Daniela 5-2 up Lino serving..5-3

Daniela wins the 1st set 6-3, only lost 5 points on serve. Keep it up Daniela!

Less than 50% 1st serve in atm, hopefully in the 2nd set she can raise that up a bit.

2nd set:

0-1 Lino holds to 30
1-1 Daniela holds to love
2-1 Daniela breaks to 15 :P

Medical timeout don't know who..play resumes..

3-1 Daniela holds to 0
4-1 Daniela breaks to 15 :P :P

DANIELA THROUGH TO 2ND ROUND 6-3 4-1 (Lino retires)

Daniela always in control

GL against Pavy or Penny

very quick, very well. :)

What was the reason for the retirement? Did it affect Lino during the whole match, or only in the end?

A good quick win by Daniela, her stats were good and she dominated the match. It's always nice to have a quick match early on in a tournament.

The Spanish reports were that Dominguez Lino had a right foot injury.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Previous meetings:

2010 - Montreal - Pennetta, 6-0 7-5
2009 - Cincinnati - Pennetta, 6-3 6-3
2005 - Filderstadt - Hantuchova, 6-3 6-4

Pennetta will come into the match with confidence given her two wins over Daniela on North American hardcourts in the past two years. At least Daniela does have the one win against the Italian, albeit indoors.

Pennetta had a good start to the year and had a good run to the semi in Dubai but she didn't win a match from the Indian Wells 2nd round until Rosmalen. She gave Bartoli a very tough match at Wimbledon and she's been winning matches at her recent tournaments although she's been beaten by players like Zahlalova Strycova and Brianti. Pennetta beat Kirilenko last week before losing to Voskoboeva who had a great run and Pavlyuchenkova here although I don't know if Kirilenko was fully fit and Pavlyuchenkova hasn't been playing that well recently and it seems like Pavlyuchenkova fell away in the third set judging by the stats.

Pennetta's won the last two matches against Daniela but Pennetta's form then was better than now, but she's still a good player and has to be respected. A win for Daniela would keep her momentum going and a good run here will give her a good seeding for the US Open. I'd have prefered Daniela to have had an earlier doubles match to give her a wee bit more time to rest so hopefully the doubles will be a quick win to keep Daniela and Sabine involved and having fun.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Having not seen the match it's difficult to say who played well and who didn't, but Sabine played some pretty awful tennis yesterday against Peer so perhaps she wasn't much better today. :|
