Pretty decent draw and having a bye really helps Daniela.

Zahlova Strycova beat Daniela at Wimbledon last year and she beat Petrova at Sydney and Kvitova at Indian Wells and she gave Wozniak a really tough match at Charleston but since then her form has been pretty average and the only good player she's beaten since has been Pennetta in Bastad. Daniela thrashed Scheepers in Seoul a couple of years ago and the only good player Scheepers has beaten this year was Kirilenko in Dubai. Zahlova Strycova beat Scheepers in Sydney qualifying.

Vinci's the first seed Daniela's due to face and she's got the same ranking points as Daniela right now but most of Vinci's points have come from winning Internationals with weak fields and her record against the top players and in the big tournaments has been fairly modest. At the same time Daniela has a 2-2 record against her and their matches have been close. Vinci is playing Jovanovski in the first round and Jovanovski is talented.

Agnieszka Radwanska would be the seeded quarter-final opponent and she beat Daniela in the semi-final last year but McHale and Gajdosova are in that section of the draw as well. Daniela still has to win a couple of matches before then.

It's important that Daniela has a good run here as this is one of the few tournaments until Pattaya where she has a lot of points to defend.

The draw is quite good for Daniela. Hopefully, she will stop Vinci from climbing the rankings. Daniela's already lost a spot this monday as Peer took the No 21 spot. So, hopwfully Daniela will advance the test of Stycova and Vinci.
Radwanska is also the perfect seed to play in QF. I think we can't complain about her opponents as she face different styles of tennis in every round and that can help her to her road to US Open.

Daniela is playing doubles too. She team up with Maria Kirilenko and they face Chung/Govortsova in R1 and Peschke/Srebotnik in next.
BTW, why Daniela isn't playing with Aga Radwanska???

I think Aggy may be protecting a leg injury. She had strapping in Stanford..

I remember Daniela struggling against Vinci in the past, am I wrong? Regardless, I believe it's a good draw. SF to defend, let's go Daniela.

It looks like Daniela & Maria have withdrawn from the doubles as the livescore is showing Date-Krumm and Zhang Shuai playing Chuang & Govortsova. Kirilenko played earlier today and had a fairly easy win against Marino, so she may have picked up an injury there* or else Daniela's withdrawn, it just seems very strange. Date-Krumm and Zhang have played doubles a few times this year so they're a semi-regular team. Zhang was in the previous match on that court against Sloane Stephens so it'll be a liitle while before any match starts.

* Apparently Kirilenko had the trainer on during her match according to the Carlsbad twitter.

From twitter:

Kirilenko says she felt pain in her left leg landing in the court after serving, so she had it taped after the 1st set.

Hopefully, she doesn't end up in Paris, Texas for Roland Garros next year.

Central Court
NB 12.00 Daniela Hantuchova vs Barbora Zahlavova Strycova

It's a shame not having Daniela and Maria in doubles. Their opponents lost hands down by an ALT team, so Maria and Daniela could do some damage.

By the way, Strycova won her mach against 6-4 1-6 7-5 on a pretty hard way. I think she won't put Daniela on big trouble. All the best Daniela.
