Slovakian duo awarded wildcards
Medibank International Sydney Friday 7 January 2011

Slovakian duo Daniela Hantuchova and Dominika Cibulkova have secured places in the Medibank International Sydney main draw, which gets underway on Sunday at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

Ranked No. 30 and No. 31 respectively, they gained direct acceptance into the draw after no WTA Top 20 wildcards were requested and will join Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonareva, Kim Clijsters andSamantha Stosur in the event.

Tournament Director Craig Watson said both women are exciting additions to the field.

“Daniela and Dominika are outstanding players and fierce competitors and I know they will both be keen to get some tough matches under their belts before the Australian Open,” Watson said.

“Daniela is an extremely popular player here and this will be her 11th consecutive year at the Medibank International Sydney, so we are looking forward to seeing her in action again this coming week."

“Dominika had a strong showing here last year, reaching the quarter finals, so she will certainly be hoping to take another step forward next week.”

Not a bad draw for Daniela in the the slightly weakish field.
1st round: Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez!!!!! (easiest)
2nd: Schiavone/Kleybanova
Qtr final: Wozniacki..............??
maybe a couple of upsets here lol!

Really good draw considering the field. Would be great if Daniela can get on e or two wins here.

It's a decent enough draw considering the players in the tournament. Martinez Sanchez did have some excellent results last year, notably winning in Rome, but she was injured in the summer and her results in the latter half of the year weren't great although she did have a good run in Moscow. Martinez Sanchez's serve & volley style will be a different test for Daniela.

We'll see what happens. A few wins here would be great and give Daniela momentum and confidence going into the Australian Open. It'll be good for Daniela to test her fitness and hopefully she's fit and healthy and over her achilles problems. Her health is the most important thing, especially with a slam coming up.

It's a nice draw and it'd be nice to see Daniela capitalise on it, but it's more important that she's fit and healthy for Melbourne. Fingers crossed she plays herself into some good form.

Daniela's 2nd match court 4. So probably will play around midnight-1am uk time. An opening win here would really give her confidence.
