It's a top level field with almost all of the top players there. Hopefully Daniela can get a decent draw because she's had so many tough draws in recent months and I keep thinking and hoping before every tournament that she's got to get a reasonable draw only to find that she's got another really difficult opener. Most of the players here are quality and there aren't too many really easy opponents but Daniela always seems to get the toughest possible opponent so we'll see what happens here. Regardless of what her draw is she has to go and beat whoever she's drawn against and take things one match at a time.

Hopefully, Daniela's recovered from her leg injury and she's fit, healthy and rested and she's able to play well. If she does, then she can beat most of the players here and she can go on a good run which will boost her confidence and ranking and hopefully give her momentum for the rest of the year.

She could do with some luck at last! Hope there will be a decent draw for her, not the toughest one...

Looking forward to the tournament. Hope she wont have an early round exit.

Come on!

I think there is no news on Dani last few weeks. Let's hope she is training on the right way!

I don't get it how can Pavlyuchenkova beat Daniela 4 times this year and only take 3 games off Date Krum m (round 2 Seoul)? Lol!

No Williams' sisters, and no Belgians, but it's still a tough field. Not too many points to defend from last year so could be an opportunity to raise the ranking a little before the end of the year. I don't like the idea that Daniela could be unseeded for the Australian Open, particularly since she has points to defend in Brisbane too. What are the chances of Daniela playing Bali? Has she done enough in the international events? I don't know why they don't produce a race list like for the SEC...

Date Krumm seems to play well in Seoul
But that still doesn't explain such a hammering of Pavlyuchenkova...
Can't believe there is almost 22 years difference between the two players!

I'll take Kerber in the first round. Daniela should be able to beat Kerber unless Daniela has an off-day or Kerber's inspired. This is pretty good compared with most of the recent openers Daniela's had.

Kerber gave Daniela a tough match in Charleston so she's got to be respected as an opponent and she beat Peer at Wimbledon. Kerber's best performances and result have been early in the year and since Wimbledon she really hasn't done that much. Li Na thrashed her in Copenhagen and Dulko beat her pretty easily at the US Open. Kerber took Li Na to three sets in Birmingham and beat Dulko in Bogota so it seems that Kerber doesn't do as well second time around. At the same time, Daniela has to go and beat her.

The second round will be difficult. Daniela's record against Shazza isn't good at all and Shazza's the defending champion so that's a really tough match although Daniela beat Shazza in Tokyo. Date Krumm beat Daniela in Seoul last year, she's a tricky opponent and she'll have home support.

We have to take this one match at a time and a win against Kerber would be a good start. Hopefully Daniela's fully fit and she plays well.

A better draw compared with previous 5 tournaments. I don't think sharapova is a guaranteed 2nd round opponent as I think datekrumm could cause the upset but obviously kerber is a must hurdle to overcome. Daniela should come thru in 2 tight sets should she play level she played at US open. Good luck daniela. Wonder how much this tourney is streamed?

Tough draw as always. I dont like those 2nd round opponents. Masha is defending the title :/

There should be streams since Monday...

Post subject:  Re: Toray Pan Pacific Open, Tokyo

I'd say it's unlikely that Sharapova will lose to Date Krumm. The Japanese number 1 just lost to Szavay in Seoul and maybe isn't playing quite as well as she was this time last year (although she did thrash Pavlyuchenkova in the previous round...). To be honest though I'd really like to see Daniela play Maria so I do hope that she can beat Kerber handily and prepare well for the second round.

These big draws are really interesting at the moment because you always have both Ivanovic and Safina unseeded, and even players like Pennetta don't quite have a high enough ranking to get a top-16 seeding position.

Post subject:  Re: Toray Pan Pacific Open, Tokyo

So would I :)

But Im worry that Daniela can be easily trashed by her :/ Hope Daniela will fight so it can be an interesting match. But still 1R to go...

Hope history will repeat itself :D
