Probably will be, there's not really any way she can avoid big names here early on, but if she serves well here there's no reason she can't make a quarters...

Daniela has to get a decent draw sometime. Since Rome, Daniela's had a lot of difficult opening rounds in Premier events, a lot tougher than she had last year where most of her opening rounds were fairly decent and she had the chance to win the match and go on a run. That's a big reason why she had only three opening round exits last year.

A lot of the time this year Daniela's had to play her first match against someone that she wouldn't play in the first two rounds of a slam because they'd both be seeded, last year she usually played someone outside the top 30. Last year in Rome, Madrid, Stanford, LA and Cincinnati her opening opponents were Dushevina, Dulko, Wozniak, Oudin and Errani; this year they were Schiavone, Pavlyuchenkova, Peer, Bartoli (San Diego replacing LA) and Pavyluchenkova. Most of Daniela's amtches this year have been against top 30 opponents. Partly that's because she's put in some really good runs like in San Diego, partly it's because of the draws she's had.
If you're not seeded you can always get a tough draw and Daniela's had a lot lately.

As expected crappy draw: 1r Hantuchova vs Pennetta(15)...holy crap...
2r Kleybanova or Q
3r Wozniacki(2)
QF Sharapova(12)

I guess what we can hope for is Pennetta goes on to win Cincinatti and withdraws from Montreal lol..or do they give byes to the semi-finalists of Cincy like they do when Rome and Madrid are back to back????

Clarification most welcome!

:wall:

Seriously,a top 20 player in every first round during the hard-court swing?

Daniela can beat Pennetta, Kleybanova and Wozniacki. I think Penneta is not playing so good as last year so Daniela can beat her. Caro is not so god too. I will be happy if she meets Sharapova, but this will be stop for Dani, Maria is playing very good tennis.

Good Luck from beginning Daniela!

Yet another really difficult draw for Daniela. I know if you're unseeded then you can always get a tough opponent in the opening round, but this is starting to get ridiculous. Frustrating at the very least. It doesn't get too much easier after the first round.

Pennetta's been playing very well lately, but she's also played a lot of matches so she may have a letdown in Montreal. Daniela will be in Montreal preparing and getting used to the conditions plus she has the skill and game to beat Pennetta. But Pennetta also has the skill and game to beat Daniela. It'll be a tough match and this is yet another tournament that has to be taken one match at a time.

@eddy. In Madrid the semi-finalists from the previous event get a bye because the Madrid main draw starts when Rome is still going on. Cincinnati finishes before the start of the main draw in Canada so it doesn't happen. The match will probably be on Tuesday as Pennetta's in the Cincinnati quarter-final so she'll need some time to travel and rest.

Thanks for the info. Well pennetta just lost to clijsters anyhoo. So I guess pennetta will be relatively rested for the 1st round match. Daniela's gotta fight for every point and try and keep flavia out there for as long as possible.

Memo to the WTA Tour:

Revise your stupid, simplistic rankings such that they adjust for strength of opponent. Stop trying to tell us that losing to a qualifier in round one is the same as losing to the top seed. And stop pretending that these sort of things even out; over the one year which the rankings are characterized they don't.
Either that or just seed every player at every tournament, that way it is fair. And, no, you want see the same matchups each week as the fields change week-to-week.

Cordially yours,

damn bad draw :/

Even if Daniela beats Pennetta... it will be a very tough match and dont think Daniela would beat Klebyanova again after that :/

I want for Daniela to succeed, but it will be very difficult...

One match at a time, like you said.

So Hope Daniela will try her best and do something...

The only positive thing is that maybe we will be able to watch Danielas R1 match against Pennetta.

There should be streams from Monday, cos its on TSN... so we will see.

Dont know if the grandstand, too, but there should be streams from center court at least.

Hope they will now schedule Danielas match on center. Shes playing with seeded player, but one never know. They can show an American player instead or dont know...

Terrible draw. Pennetta had three very solid straight-sets wins this week, and pushed Clijsters to a tight match. I don't like Daniela's chances. Unfortunately she's been very unlucky with draws the past couple of weeks, and it's frustrating since there are big points to pick up in Cincinnati and Montreal. There's about twenty-odd players in the draw (mainly unseeded), that I'm convinved Daniela would beat in her current form, but not being drawn against them is the slight problem...
