Are you sure that's the draw? The official Wimbledon website has been running a blog all morning during the draw and at 10.33am is says:

"10.33 am: Serena gets Michelle Larcher de Brito in the first round. The winner then gets the winner of Anna Chakvetadze - Andrea Petkovic in the second round. Dominika Cibulkova has got Daniela Hantuchova (No24) in the first round - tough ones in the part of the draw!"

It still says later on on the blog that Daniela is the potential third round oppo for Sharapova, but if anything, Cibulkova in the first round instead of King would be an even worse draw in my opinion.

Well at least both maria and serena (and daniela) will have to earn their spots in the 3rd and 4th rounds...just hope daniela makes at least 3rd round. But really I think daniela is cursed at wimbledon. I'm seriously not joking when saying that. Ironically had dementieva been fit to play then daniela would still facing serena but one round earlier.

About the only positive spin you can put on this is that Sharapova has not been a top player in a long time now. She actually hasn't beat a top 40 player all year along and really cannot be considered a lock to get by Bondarenko in round one. So, I see that as a potential winnable match for Daniela. As for being drawn with Serena again, well . . . :(

Please, the last time Daniela beat Masha was way back in 2004, before she had even won Wimbledon. The problem is that they basically play the same game, but Masha does everything better, and with more power. I hope Daniela makes in to the 3rd round, but that will be the end of the road this year.

I'm taking a trip to Europe this year and i'll be arriving in London at the end of week one play. I was hoping to see Daniela... but i guess i'll only see her on the doubles court, if that.

I don't think it's too bad a draw for the first couple of rounds but then it gets a little harder. As long as Daniela plays well, she should be able to beat Vania King easily enough and I'd favour Daniela against either Vesnina or Zahlova Strycova.

Sharapova's the seeded opponent in the third round but Shazza's recent Wimbledon record has been pretty poor, she's lost in the second round the past two years, so she's not a certainty to get to the third round and she's got a difficult first round opponent in Kateryna Bondarenko. Shazza's recent record at the Slams hasn't been that impressive At the same time, Daniela doesn't have that great a record against Shazza, so it would be a difficult match should it happen.

Fourth round would be someone or other called Williams. I'm guessing she must be good to be seeded so high.

First for Daniela is to beat King, then just focus on the next match. I'll just repeat my mantra of one match at a time.

That is so true, gotta agree with that. It would be a big surprise for me if she can past the 3rd round this time. Even 1st and 2nd round are difficult bc Daniela seems to drop her level when playing a lower-ranked players. That is the difference b/w her and the top players. They usually got through the early rounds easily.
