I must admit, I was a tad surprised when I saw the thread for this tournament at the top of the site, but if Daniela feels that it's an ideal place to prepare for the bigger Indian Wells and Miami events, then, why not?! Hope that the relatively weak entry list (no disrespect to those on the list, but if Daniela is seeded 3rd...you get what I mean) will allow her to get a few moral boosting wins under her belt heading into two American events. She should easily bring into the quarters & even more I hope. For me, just Peer, Pavlyuchenkova & Safarova are dangerous for Dani. |

I always felt that there was a possibility that Daniela would play here after she trained in Mexico in the offseason. The desert climate in Monterey will be like Indian Wells so it gives her match practice prior to Indian Wells in similar conditions, plus she's got the chance to get a few wins if not better. It's not a particularly strong field and Daniela should be able to beat most of the players easily enough although a few of the players here have beaten Daniela or given her a difficult match in the past. |

You'd like to think Daniela would progress pretty far here, but she's had a couple of up and down results so far this season. *fingers crossed* |

From my point of view, Daniela's form this year is better than hers last year. Unfortunately, she usually met players who " plays the match of their career or match of their tournament", that's why she lost to someone so unexpectedly. Of course, there were still some matches when her inconsistency and UEs were to blame but that is normal. I feel like if she plays well, this tournament is really her first chance this year to do something big. There is no player she can't beat in this field. I hope we can have a good tournament. |

DRAW IS OUT 1R Daniela (2) vs Q 2R Kanepi or Parra Santonja QF Safarova (8) /Coin/King/Zahlavova SF Cibulkova (4)/Szavay(5) Should get past qualifier even if it's Dokic. Kanepi has recently found form but should not be a problem, Parra too. Quarters will be tough if it's Safarova but she is inconsistent, so might not be Lucie. I think semis is realistic but a chance for a final definitely. |
