Very close match that could have gone either way. Li was extremely good in that last set. I think daniela hoped that Li would get tired but she didn't. Even though i'm disappointed and i'm sure daniela's gutted she's playing well and I definitely think top 20 even top 15 by roland garros. This match felt like a 4th rounder. And actually both players didn't make that many unforced errors. A lot of rallies were high quality. I think daniela lost the match when she failed to hold serve at 5 all in the 1st set. I think if daniela had snatched the tiebreak then she may have steamrolled the 2nd set. It's a shame as her 4th round opponent would have been a winable match. I see a venus li quarter final. One thing we must remember is how daniela almost bowed out in round one so at least she made the 3rd round.

Bah :x this really sucks.

I think we have to give credit to Li as she played well and was the better player on the day. Li hit some great crosscourt shots and she got some incredible angles on some of them. So she either got winners, forced an error from Daniela or got Daniela out of position so Li had an open court to hit into. Daniela did hit a lot of good winners and won some nice points after she played a good rally but Li was very good, especially in the third set.

I wonder how different the match would have been if Daniela had put away that smash at 5-5 in the first set. Daniela just had to hit it forward and it would have been a winner put she wanted to put it crosscourt where Li was going to cover and because of that Daniela put it wide. It was a crucial point in that game and if Daniela had won it she'd have been in a good position to win the game and the probably the set, but instead Li was serving for it.

It helped Li a lot that she was serving first in the third set and she also had a bit of momentum from her fight back at the end of the second set. If Daniela had been able to break Li for the second, served it out first time or taken an earlier set point then she could have had more momentum for the third but it was a struggle to close it out so Li felt competitive plus she was serving first which is a big advantage in women's tennis.

Daniela got screwed by some of the line calls at 3-1 in the third and she didn't have too much luck on net cords in the match either. Hawkeye would have been nice.

There is still the mixed doubles and Daniela can get revenge in the Fed Cup.

well, it was really eather way match, but Li was better in the 3rd set :{
Daniela has to start believe in herself more and she should do something with her serve... pity, didnt want her favourite grand slam to end for her so early, she could do better...

hope she will get better results in doubles, but I would be happier if had been singles...

Sorry for my english

"Today the conditions were a bit difficult. Not quite blowing in one direction, but the wind changed and more difficult to seek rhythm. It stemmed some tight 'outy' that we played," she said at the outset of its assessment for SITA and Daniela Hantuchova further continued: "Damage concludes first set, could have ended in my favor. In the second game I played well in the 5:0 condition, tried to push súperku aggressive game. Then I bit zvoľnila. If I won the set 6:0 and 6:3 is not, perhaps it was different at the beginning of the third. In it she started to brejk more risk and it is based. Overall it was very tight. A few beats wind blow off, there were millimeter 'outy' but must admit that súperka played very well. "

Naturally I'm disappointed that Daniela has lost, but at the end of the day she has lost to someone who is higher ranked than she is. If Daniela wants to climb the rankings then, yes, she will need to beat players like Li but Li is higher ranked than Daniela for a reason. I didnt watch the match so I can't go in to things too much as I don't know how Daniela played, but I have read the majority of the posts on here about the match and I'm happy with the conclusion that Daniela didnt have a lot of luck, and a few points here or there and she may have come out the other side with a win and a place in the 4th round. Unfortunately she hasn't and she can now play in the mixed doubles care free, enjoy herself with no pressure at all then move on to Europe.

Winable match against Wozniacki? Dont think so... Well, Wozniacki has been beaten by Li Na recently, but Li Na has something, that Danis has not - That mental strenght and she moves well on court. Hope that Wozniacki will beat Li Na now... I dont wont to see my another fav player down by her :/

And Safinas time has run out, I think. Kirilenko rulez. Shes got a great form, hopes she will manage it. :)

Expected 3-setter and I gotta say expected winner. Well, Wozniatski would have destroyed Daniela anyway.

I was actually at Daniela's game today and i've got to say that i'm slightly disappointed. Daniela didn't play badly, but i really feel like there was a bit of a missed opportunity. Daniela had an opportunity to take this match by the reigns, but she just didn't take her chances. So many times Daniela was really tentative when she needed to be aggressive and she lost a couple of points which she shouldn't have.

Li gave Daniela more than enough opportunities to clinch the match but Daniela managed to make things difficult for herself by not following shots into the net and generally being passive when she needed to finish points strongly.

I haven't seen any statistics, but i can't imagine that Daniela's serve helped her out a great deal today. It's just not a weapon and it really needs to be. With the exception of Dementieva, there's no consistent performer in the top 10 with a below average serve. While i'd venture to say that Daniela's second serve wasn't devoured by Li, she certainly didn't make much of an impact with her first ball and it's frustrating because there were a couple of pivotal Daniela service games where a couple of decent first serves would have really made the difference.

I don't think Daniela has the ability to be ruthless with her matches. She nearly let Li back into that second set and didn't manage to maintain any momentum she gained at any other part of the match.

Yeesh, it sounds like i've totally bagged out on Daniela's performance - i actually i think she played decently! But it's just disappointing not to see her capitalise on good play. Her ground strokes were solid for the most part she just seemed tentative. Very, very tentative for the majority of the match. It's a real pity because i would have rated some sort of chance against Caroline on a hard court. But then again... having just seen her match against Peer, Caroline has established herself as a real threat.

Oh well, she defended her points and very nearly made it to the fourth round. She's got some room for improvement rankings wise between now and RG, so here's to hoping she can solidly be in the top 20 and maybe bag a whole bunch of points at the French.

Great post BMC-exactly the way I saw the match. There is absolutely no reason why her serve shouldn't be a huge weapon-it was in 2002. She basically just tries to place it in these days- I would like her to experiment a la Justine and just try ripping it in for a few tournaments and not worry about the DFs. It would be nice if she could rediscover some zip on her BH as well.

Serve, backhand, return... we all know Daniela doesn't really maximize their potential. It ain't gonna change, I am content with it.

Serve, backhand, return... we all know Daniela doesn't really maximize their potential. It ain't gonna change, I am content with it.You shouldn't be. It is instructive to contrast Daniela with my other favourite player,Justine, and remember that they were pretty much at the same level in 2002(and Daniela won the important encounters between them that year). One player went all-out to improve her game, and you can tell that Justine is still adding to her game by the quality of her netplay in this tournament. Daniela,OTOH,regressed and quite badly at that.

Of course Justine has a world-class coach in her corner. The less said about Daniela's coaching situation over the years, the better. I do rate Eduardo and Darren, however, and I hope they justify my faith.

I have no faith anymore, which is ok I guess. The same issues are still present and it is not going to change. Without better defense/movement or more powerful groundgame she stays where she is now and I am skeptical that she can do much about it, considering she looks even thinner than last year.

"For Li S, we again played a tight match trojsetový viewers saw a nice tennis . I'm sorry that I failed dejstva critical to build on the excellent performance of the second set. The more aggressive, I began as a pilot, tried to play it more to push it and Backhand in exchanges.'s a shame that a state like some of 5:0 poľavila, I instinctively started to think about the third set and I gave her a chance to turn grabbed. Had 6:0, maybe it's depressed and would be angry. Throughout the match, and blowing terribly difficult to seek the correct rhythm . Some balls I had to play around more to the center and not the line, but after each fight is general. Although Li is often thrown away the ball, although it is player who has really great tajming. farmstead number 3, where we played, it is uncomfortable in that wind nefúka always in one direction. "Hardly casino games and it was definitely better, I played better matches here than last year. Grandslam For each round is a success. Australian Open is dangerous that it first tournament of the Big Four in the season, the players in it have nothing to lose, therefore comes to surprises. Many favorites now fell outside much earlier than me, so I am glad that I managed to get into the 3rd round. I think the first season it ok I hope this will further grandslamoch on my part even better. At this year's Melbourne will once again delighted to remember and great for the fans. Even today, many Slovaks came, who were good in all corners of the division level, have consistently encouraged and created great atmosphere.
