In Serena's section Well, she does not bring her A game to the other tournaments, so maybe, just maybe... Nadia first, though, and thats pretty hard... |

Not a great draw, at least not compared to the past couple of tournaments. Suarez Navarro's recent results haven't been great and clay's her best surface, but she's got the talent to beat Daniela. It's a match Daniela should win but it could be tricky. There's also the problem of scheduling as Daniela's playing in the Tokyo doubles final while all the singles semi-finalist have been given a first round bye in Beijing. Hopefully Daniela can get enough time to rest and acclimatise before her first match. Schiavone and Kleybanova have the same problem. Petrova's form hasn't been great either so that's a winnable match for Daniela. The third round is likely to be difficult. We'll just see what happens, Daniela can win a couple of matches here but the schedule could make things difficult for her so we just have to take things one match at a time. |

great daniela hope this continues in her next match press conference: State: I feel like it was a pretty good match for just arriving yesterday. I just tried to focus on trying to recover between the points and not waste much energy and I think I played a pretty smart game. Q: After your chat with your coach in the first set, it seemed like you played a lot more deep lobs and drop shots. Was that something the coach told you? A: Not really, he was trying to talk to me more about my psychological state. He was trying because I didn’t feel very good and felt a bit dizzy at times. Because I had no time here to recover from last week, which was quite emotional. It’s Monday and we had to do a lot of stuff the night before. He was more trying to lift me up and get a positive attitude and try to do my best even if I wasn’t in the best conditions. Q: Ai Sugiyama finished her career last week. How was the emotion when playing the last match with her in doubles on Saturday and do you have plans to find a new partner to play doubles with next year? A: Yeah it was tough. Especially the last few games, we were trying to hold the tears inside, but it was almost impossible. The whole week was very emotional. She felt like it was the right time and I think she did it in a great tournament in front of her home crowd. So I think she chose the best time. I saw the relief in her because she had no more friction and we really enjoyed the matches. It was more the stuff off the court that she had to do that was very tough emotionally. Like, we had to give a speech on Monday, which was quite tough, and then, obviously, after the finals. But, overall it was a great week and I was proud to be part of it. Q: Having seen the women’s draw for the China Open, how do you feel about your potential opponents in the next few rounds and your hopes for the tournament? A: I’m just very excited to be here. I have such good memories from last year, making it to the quarters and obviously playing the Olympics here was very, very special. So, I’m just really enjoying every match. I’m going to watch my next opponent and see who wins. But, every match here is so tough from the first round, so every win is pretty big. I think we are all just trying to do our best. It’s the end of season, so I might be getting a little tired. I’m really looking forward to next round and I’m for sure going to give it my best shot. |
