This is absolutely fantastic. I'm so happy for Daniela and Ai and it would be wonderful for Ai to end her career as a winner and for Hantuyama to go out on top.

There have been a lot of times in the past when a good run in doubles has given Daniela a boost for singles so hopefully this gives her confidence and momentum for the rest of the year.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

2nd set:

daniela to serve, 40-30, DF and then 0-1...

think Hantuyama will beat themselves today... don't know what's happened with them now...playing good at the beginning at now loosing all games in a row...maybe because of the thoughts that Ai will retire now forever? :?:

This is just gutting. It would have been so wonderful for Ai to go out a winner and Hantuyama to finish as winners but it was not to be. I just feel very sad right now.

Still, hopefully Daniela can carry the momentum from this into her singles for the rest of the year.

"Today it certainly was not the outcome. It's about feelings. Such emotions at tennis, I had some even experienced. Even during the match it was difficult to keep slzičky. The audience were very pleased that 'SUGI' came up to the finals and that it has time to root. I am glad for all this past week with Sugie, because I understand how difficult this is farewell, "said Daniela Hantuchova. Lúčiacej colleague of many years to prepare and present courts. , "Three large paintings with photos of our common career. It took me almost a whole week, I just sent her to a hotel, "said Hantuchova. Asked whether the partner has not sought to persuade even nekončila, said flatly:" Absolutely not. I did not want to exert any pressure from it. Even so it is great, we finally played this tournament and I ever interferes with that, we won the finals. "

@ google translation.

"I fought on the tennis court for such a long time. This was everything to me," Ai said before 9,513 fans in the Ariake Colosseum.
"Tennis gave me so much. I want to give back to you through sports. Thank you," she said, as her mother and coach Fusako looked on.

Hantuchova, who gave a tearful speech for Sugiyama before the Tokyo tournament began, again praised her partner as a friend and mentor.
"Thank you so much for another fantastic week. I think we did so well to make it to the final," Hantuchova said.

A special letter came from Sugiyama's former partner Kim Clijsters, who won this year's US Open after returning from a two-year retirement during which she had a baby.
The two women in 2003 played four matches each in one day -- two doubles and two singles -- and Sugiyama won both singles and doubles titles at the State Farm Women's Tennis Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona.
"I will really cherish the time we spent on court together, winning my first Grand Slam titles at the French and Wimbledon with her," the Belgian said in the message, read before the fans.
"If you need any baby, or even comeback advice down the road, you know where to find me," she said.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

I wasnt aware that Sugi was going to be retiring due to the lack of internet at my Uni house but hearing the news of that it makes this doubles defeat that little bit more significant and heartbreaking as it would have been a great way to go out, with a win and with your best friend by your side. Good luck to Sugi in all her ventures and congratulations for a great career.
