Not the best draw for Daniela but it could have been worse. At least she has a great opportunity to win a match and then test herself against Serena, who hasn't been playing particularly well the past couple of weeks. Who knows, maybe Daniela can cause a major upset if the American plays like she did against Bammer in Cincinatti on Thursday.

Off-topic: How unlucky can Nadia Petrova get? Sharapova at the French Open, Sharapova at Stanford, and now once again here in Toronto in the opening round!

Yeah, Daniela's draws have been getting worse ever since she's been playing better, lol.

I think it's a good chance to test herself nonetheless.

I noticed that Daniela is preparing a lot earlier in her back swing before she hits a shot, also her feet seem to be much more solid on the ground before she hits too. She also seems to be able to change direction with her shots easier but also with disguise.

I like what I'm seeing.

In so many of the premier events Daniela's had to face a top 10 player in the second round and this is another one. Pretty much the same as LA - a qualifier then one of the top two. Hopefully Daniela can get into the top 20 after the US Open so she can avoid these sorts of draws.
With Daniela's exertions of the past week there's always the possibility of a let down but she's also riding a wave of good results and she should have too much ability for a qualifier. The second round will be a bit harder, but Serena's lost to Stosur and Bammer in her last two tournaments, so Daniela has a chance. It's a good opportunity to challenge herself and gauge her performance. Daniela's had a good hardcourt season so far so hopefully she can play well, pick up a win or two here and then prepare for the US Open.

Passos is a good coach, eddy.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

I saw Serena's loss to Bammer and she lost mainly because of unforced errors. She made so many. She could play a perfect point of power and precision and construction and then followed some bad timing and spraying - all Bammer did was return semi-close to the baseline and Serena couldn't get in position.

There's a 1/12th chance that Daniela could face british girl Elena Baltacha in Round One, as Baltacha just came through qualifying. Baltacha beat Groenefeld and Barrois in qualifying. The win against ALG is impressive.

However, Kirilenko and Vinci are also through which would be sterner tests.

Quite a few dodgy opponants for Daniela competing in the final round of qualifying, including Safarova (who is serving for the match against Koryttseva), Wickmayer (who is a set and a break up against Fichman) and, as previously mentioned, Kirilenko and Vinci (who have already won through to the main draw). Hopefully Daniela will get lucky and get drawn against one of the weaker qualifiers.

Thanks. There were more dangerous qualifiers for sure, so that's good news.

Yaroslava Shvedova: Cultural Learnings of Tennis for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

Shvedova's a pretty decent opening round opponent for Daniela as there were trickier qualifiers. Shvedova beat Stosur in Rome and took Azarenka to 3 sets in Indian Wells so she could make things difficult for Daniela, but as long as Daniela plays well and she's not too tired from Cincinnati she should win.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.
