New Haven points come off this coming week so Daniela will be outside the top 24 anyway (I think both Cirstea and Lisicki will overtake her). Zheng has already overtaken her because of her win today. So Daniela will play a top-8 seed in the third round of the Open?

no, Lisicki and Cirstea will not overtake her

projected ranking points:

22 Zheng 1965 (and still playing)
23 Danka 1909
24 Lisicki 1890
25 Cirstea 1866

so she will play a 9-16 in the 3rd round, which is one of Wozniacki, Pennetta, Ivanovic, Petrova, Radwanska, Bartoli, Stosur, Cibulkova

Oh ok, thanks. Daniela just a few more points ahead. I don't think thats too bad then. The only two players I wouldn't want her to meet are Ivanovic and Petrova. After Wozniacki's loss to Zheng I think Daniela would have a chance against her, and Daniela has beaten the likes of Radwanska and Bartoli. Pennetta, Stosur and Cibulkova are also all very beatable in my oppinion. However, thats the third round, and all those players (and Daniela herself) have to win two matches first. Going on the results in Toronto this week, thats not always as easy as believed...

Daniela & Ai won 6-4 6-2 against A Radwanska & Wozniacki. :wav:

Why does the scoreboard say 2 break points at 15-40, but break point at 40-40. Shouldn't it say 3 break points at 15-40?

Nice win in doubles, if only Daniela could beat Wozniacki in singles from time to time...

I guess i wouldn't find Daniela's singles result so disappointing if she didn't have the momentum in both sets. It's like she's not mentally aware on the tennis court. So many times lately, she's been a break or even a set up and totally let things slide. It's really quite concerning. It's obvious that she's been fighting when she needs to, but she could making things so much easier for herself if she just kept her head in the game. Granted, her opponents could be showing some fight and it's genuinely not Daniela's fault that she can't manage a straight sets win, but particularly against an opponent like Shvedova, i just find it really annoying.

She had a good win against Zvonereva, but she can't expect to beat top ten players if she's lets any type of momentum she builds just slide away. I'm cautiously optimistic of a better US Open this year, and i'd bank on Daniela giving any of her third round opponents a run for their money, but she's got to seize opportunities when she has them, because they'll eventually run out.

Wildcards for New Haven have been awarded to Svetlana Kuznetsova and Meghann Shaughnessy, so looks like Daniela will be having a week off.

Player field: Bammer, Bartoli, Benesova, A.Bondarenko, Chakvetadze, Cibulkova, Cornet, Dulko, Kleybanova, Kuznetsova[WC], Makarova, Martinez Sanchez, Mauresmo, Medina Garrigues, Pavlyuchenkova, Pennetta, A.Radwanska, Razzano, Schiavone, Schnyder, Shaughnessy[WC], Stosur, Suarez Navarro, Vesnina, Wozniacki, Zheng.

I think its actually quite a tough field with alot of potential 'banana skins' for Daniela, so I'm glad shes not playing.

A nice win for Daniela & Ai, winning the last five games. It makes it suck even more that Daniela was sick at Wimbledon.

Daniela's on court and winning, she's having fun playing and she's still involved in the later stages of a big tournament, so that will do her a bit of good.

I read this on the US Open website

"Men's and women's seeds will be based on the August 21 rankings. "

Does that mean Daniela will be 22nd seed, or is August 21st a typo and they actually mean Monday August 24th??

A Mountie always gets their trophy, eh.

On-court coaching really works.

- a great article by the late David Foster Wallace on Michael Joyce, superb writing about tennis and the experience of the journeyman professional that give it a universiality beyond Joyce.
