Well, no Sharapova, so thats something. We can't really hope for a good draw because with an entry list like this one good draws don't exist, especially when you're not seeded. I can see Daniela drawing Clijsters in the opening round ... all the pressure on Daniela and very little pressure on Kim (like the scenario when Daniela played Laura Robson at Wimbledon, only a much tougher opponant, who played very well at the Centre Court celebration day in May). |

The draw is taking place now. Apparently, Clijsters has drawn Bartoli for her first match back. |

Draw: Safina (1) bye Vinci vs Q Martinez Sanchez vs Dushevina Peng Cibulkova (15) Bartoli(12) vs Clijsters Dulko vs Schnyder Safarova vs Benesova Kuznetsova (6) Bye Venus Williams (3) bye Q vs Makarova Q vs Szavay Q vs Pennetta (14) Petrova (10) vs A Bondarenko Errani vs HANTUCHOVA Kleybanova vs Rezai Zvonareva (7) Bye Wozniacki (8) Bye Suarez Navarro vs Wozniak Cornet vs Czink Q vs Ivanovic (11) Razzano (16) vs Groenefeld Shaugnessy vs Cirstea Q vs Schiavone Dementieva (4) Bye Jankovic (5) bye Kirilenko vs Q Vesnina vs Chakvetadze Kanepi vs Azarenka (9) A.Radwanska (13) vs Sugiyama Bammer vs Zheng Q vs Rybarikova S.Williams (2) Bye DANIELA WILL PLAY 1ST ROUND AGAINST ERRANI Not a bad 1st round draw by any means, although the 2nd round will be tricky especially if it's Petrova...and we all know Daniela's shite record against Zvonareva so I think the best Daniela can hope for is 3rd round anything better than that Daniela's played a fantastic tourney. |

Considering that amazing field, the draw is ok. Neither Petrova or Zvonareva have been in form lately, tough they both have excellent H2Hs vs. Daniela... Errani isn't the worst Match-Up for Danka, but she already lost to the Italian this year and Errani had a good week in Portoroz a few weeks ago. I really have no idea who will come through to the QF in this Quarter. If Zvonareva raises her level it's gonna be her, but Bondarenko might also have a good chance. |

Well, it's about the best draw we could have hoped for really. I think Daniela just needs one really positive tournament to spring everything into action. She seems to have the form and the confidence, she just needs a few big name wins. If she can get into the quarters, taking out the likes of Zvon or Petrova it'd give her the extra bit of momentum she needs to possibly take out the likes of Dementieva and Safina - opponents she seemed half a chance of at the very least clinching a set from recently. Now seems like the time as well all things considered. Ah well. One round at a time i supposed. Errani probably won't be a piece of cake considering she lost to her earlier this year. *fingers crossed* |

Considering the entry list, that draw is really quite good IMO. Hope for a comfortable first round win and a good performance for the second one. |

There's been a lot of hype on tennisforum about Daniela's potential 2nd round match-up with Petrova. They haven't played each other in over 3 years and many are saying that Daniela can win that one...obviously they both have to win their prospective 1st round matches, but I must admit it'll be an intriging encounter should it happen, as I don't think Petrova is anywhere near where she was 3 years ago...also looking further ahead Zvonareva is coming back from injury...so maybe a QF is possible...???? |

Considering the players here, Errani's a good draw for Daniela. Errani did beat Daniela in Brisbane and she got to the final in Palermo and Portoroz where she gave Safina a tough match, so she'll have a bit of confidence. But, the only good player she beat in either of these tournaments was Groenefeld and Errani had a lot of early exits between Australia and Palermo. Daniela's form is better than it was at the start of the year while Errani hasn't done too much for most of this year. The courts are fairly fast which suits Daniela and as long as Daniela plays well she should win. Petrova's the likely second round opponent and she'd be a good test of Daniela's level as she's a power baseliner similar to Safina or Dementieva but not quite as good. Petrova's the defending champion, albeit with against a weakened field as most of the top players were at the Olympics, and she has a winning record against Daniela although the last match was almost three years ago. It's going to be a tough match but a decent opportunity for a good win for Daniela. She has to beat Errani first though. |

Doubles draw is out as well... Black/Huber (1) vs. Bye Mirza/Schiavone vs. Koryttseva/Poutchek Senoglu/Shvedova vs. Kudryavtseva/Savchuk Benesova/Kondratieva vs. Mattek-Sands/Petrova (8) Hsieh/Peng (3) vs. Bye Dushevina/Rodionova vs. Dekmeijere/Ditty Granville/Gullickson vs. Amanmuradova/Niculescu Bondarenko/Bondarenko vs. Groenefeld/Schnyder (6) Llagostera Vives/Martinez Sanchez (7) vs. Jans/Rosolska Kirilenko/Vesnina vs. Chuang/Yan Kleybanova/Makarova vs. Safarova/Voskoboeva Bye vs. Pennetta/Raymond (4) Ruano Pascual/Zheng (5) vs. Craybas/Spears Dulko/Peer vs. Shaughnessy/Wozniacki Clijsters/Wickmayer (WC) vs. Oudin/Perry (WC) Bye vs. Hantuchova/Sugiyama (2) As for the singles draw, every draw in the US Open series is going to be tough, especially with Daniela not being able to get a seeding at the moment, but all in all it could have been a lot worse, hopefully she can beat Errani and maybe pick up a 'surprise' win over Petrova to improve her chances of a top 20 place come September time Scott |
