Someone tweeting from the draw has said that Daniela is facing Lisicki in round one and then Safina in round two. If so, that's very close to the worst draw possible out of the literally thousands of possibilities, considering she couldn't have drawn a top eight player in round one.

This is a really dissapointing draw considering that Daniela is playing well and could have gone far at this tournament with a kind draw. She definately has a shot against Lisicki having played well this week and with confidence. However, a win against Safina seems very unlikely, especially since the Russian has already won a title on hardcourts since Wimbledon, and got the better of Daniela in the Netherlands on grass (one of Daniela's favourite surfaces and one of Safina's least favourite). Not much point looking beyond these early rounds, and besides, the draw doesn't get any easier for Daniela anyway, with a tricky opponant in round 3 and most likely Ivanovic or Bartoli in a potential quarter-final.

I think i jinxed it by thinking that i hope Daniela gets a good draw this tourney because i could actually pay attention to her results this week (a combination of poo internet and uni stopped me last week). I think her round one match is really bad. Lisciki could have a good serving day in which case she's going to be hard to beat. She reminds me a lot of Petrova, someone Daniela has always had trouble against. I wouldn't totally rule her out of giving Safina a run for her money if she does manage to get through though. But it's just so damned unfortunate! Daniela is playing good tennis and she's getting crummy draws. Argh!

Daniela got a bad break with the draw here with the highest ranked unseeded player in the first round and the number one in the second. It's frustrating because there are some pretty average players in this draw.

At the same time, Lisicki won't be happy about the draw either and this is an opportunity for Daniela to test herself against a direct rival in the rankings and a win here would be a further boost to her confidence and give her momentum facing Safina.

I'm hoping for a repeat of Luxembourg.

Yes but she had a bye into the 2nd round last year and got beaten by Govortseva so she won't lose any points whatever happens this year, as you have to win your 2nd round match for your bye points to count.

She doesn't have any points to defend in here.
However, a R2 here means 40points and her 17th best is 70pts so , she'll not gain any points on ranks and she can only climb if her rivals lose some points.

Daniela plays Melanie Oudin in R1 instead of Lisicki !
Daniela was lucky there, wasn't she ?
Of course, Safina remains her R2 opponent :(
