Comfortable enough win in the end against a tricky up-and-coming opponent. Bit of a shame that Daniela didn't win the first set as she has a good record in tiebreaks but she won the next two sets fairly comfortably. In the second and third sets, Daniela got to grips with Oudin's serve, especially the second, and punished it while she was good at protecting her own serve and did very well on her second serve. Daniela's ability to win points on both second serves in the last two sets was a decisive factor in the match.

First round's been negotiated and Daniela's got a nice chance to test herself against Safina. Safina squeezed past Errani in Portoroz while Daniela had a good run in Stanford and their match in Rosmalen was close so Daniela can have confidence about her chances. It's going to be a tough match but it's a great opportunity for Daniela to get a big win.

Also Daniela's never beaten someone who was currently ranked no.1 at the time of the match so would be really nice if Daniela can beat Safina.

^Let's see (and hope) if she plays doubles later today. While Daniela (like many athletes) has been known to play hurt when maybe you shouldn't, I would suspect that if she plays doubles later today she would be OK.

Daniela didn't start the match with strapping so she got strapped up sometime during the match. I don't know if it was an existing condition, she felt something during the match or there was an element of disrupting Oudin to it. Were there any stoppages in play when Oudin had momentum?

It's a different leg from Madrid but Daniela never played with strapping and she's been strapped up twice in recent months. She finished the match pretty well with the strapping but started slowly without it. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

For what it's worth, she's playing doubles right now and up an early break. :)

And most importantly she is winning them, unlike last year these months.
I am not very optimistic that Daniela will beat Safina. Not unless she can read her serve better than in Stuttgart.
Wow her hair is really longI love Daniela's hair, hopefully she ain't gonna cut it anytime soon. ;)

And most importantly she is winning them, unlike last year these months. It was the matches she was losing at the start of the year that were concerning me(Errani,Cornet twice,Razzano) as she seemed to fade badly in all of them. I might have cussed out Etcheberry on the other thread, but he seems to have sorted out the stamina issue,so props to him.

I love Daniela's hair, hopefully she ain't gonna cut it anytime soonShame,I really loved the shorter 2002 look! :heart2:

Shame,I really loved the shorter 2002 look! :heart2:Me too, but imo it was Daniela's cutie face what was the main attraction back then, not the hair itself.
