Shite WTA rules... Safina requested her coach and has just had a very pleasant chat with him and will now probably come out in top form...
In deed, Safina wins the first three points of the next game
Daniela serving at *0-40. So annoying...

Safina breaks back, and then holds serve from *0-30. The Russian leads in a set for the first time in the match, 3-2*.
I know Daniela has on occasion benefitted from the on-court coaching but its really frustrating when it makes this much of an impact on a match. Safina looked down and out at a break down in this second set, but after talking to her coach she had a totally different mentality and could be seen jumping up and down at her end of the court.

Safina broke Daniela's serve again to take a *4-2 lead, but Daniela has just broken back to end the run of three games for Dinara. Daniela needs to hold now to level this second set. She's serving at *3-4.

Daniela held for 4-4, but lost the last two games of the second set, taking the match into a decider.
She managed to save break points at 1-0 down in the third, but Safina eventually broke through at 2-1* (despite Daniela saving four break points), and then held to love to lead 4-1*.
Daniela held serve reasonably comfortably at *1-4 to end the run of games for Safina, and then broke Safina to love, predominantly due to errors from the Russian, to get the third set back on serve.
Daniela is now serving at *3-4.

Despite the loss , this is still a nice effort from Daniela .
To lose against the nr1 ranked 16 64 63 it's a "good" result ..
Lets hope that she gets a nice draw in Wimbledon to go at least to the 3rd or 4th round :)

Safina broke Daniela at the first opportunity to regain the break, and then served the match out to love, winning 1-6 6-4 6-3. The last game of the match was a total error-fest from Daniela, putting Safina under no pressure and allowing her to serve out comfortably. Safina may well have got tight, as she did in her previous surface game when serving for a potential 5-2 lead, but Daniela didn't test her.
The key momentum switch was when Safina obtained on-court coaching at a break down early on in the second set. She came out with a different mentality, playing with more confidence and striking the ball alot better, and more freely. Daniela didn't respond well and very quickly went from a break up to a break down, losing the mental and physical 'edge' she had over Safina, going from a period of dominating the world number 1, to being dominated. Although she managed to recover the break mid-way through the second, she could not hold serve under pressure at *4-5 down, and subsequently lost the second set.
Safina started the third strongly, and as soon as the got the break it looked like a very long way back for Daniela. Although Daniela played some excellent points to keep herself in the match, in the end Safina was a little too strong and Daniela too inconsistent.
What can be taken away is that Daniela was able to compete to a high level in a match against a top-player, and was able to comfortably take a set off a world-number 1. She even won the same amount of games as her victor (both players winning 13 games).
I think she can be relatively confident going into Wimbledon, and can expect a decent run, providing that she has a reasonable draw. Daniela put in a very good performance today, and will hopefully have some more good matches over the coming fornight.

oh, daniela... from what I read, it was the usual "having the lead but then letting silly things disrupt my game"

Hope she gets a decent draw for Wimbly

This is so disappointing that Daniela lost after playing so well and being in a good position to win. At the same time, Safina played a lot better in the second and third sets and at least Daniela kept fighting and was competitive although she fell away in the last couple of games of the match, but Safina raised her game then after a brief lapse. Early on Daniela won a lot of points from Safina's errors as well as her own winners but as the match went on Daniela had to win points by hitting winners and she hit some good ones as Safina was making very few errors compared to early in the match, except for the seventh game of the third, and she was pounding away with her groundstrokes.

Safina getting her coach on at 2-1 in the second set really turned the match around because her level went way up afterwards. In the first set Safina was making a lot of errors, she wasn't getting too many first serves in and her groundstrokes lacked depth and power. Daniela was playing well, dictating points and she was getting Safina out wide a lot and either getting an error or putting a winner into the open court. After the pep talk from the coach, Safina's groundstrokes had much more power and were peppering the baseline, plus she was getting more first serves in and was dictating the points from the middle of the court and Daniela was doing the retrieving. In the first set Daniela served out wide a bit and had success doing that but as the match went on she served up the middle more and that didn't trouble Safina as much.

Daniela never seems that happy when Passos comes out for a talk.

It sucks that Daniela lost this, but she played well and was competitive against the world no. 1 and she can take confidence and momentum from this tournament and hopefully she gets a decent draw at Wimbledon.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Daniela played not bad, but I think Safinas coach won the match. I hate the coaching in tennis, its a individual sport and the player alone must face up with problems. I don't wrote this because Daniela lost.

I thought she was ok today. It was really the change in Safina's mentality that cost Daniela the match. Daniela put in a few poor games here and there, but overall I thought it was a good performance mentally and physically from her.

Too bad Daniela lost the match after a great start in the first set.
At least we can say that Daniela is in a good form and competitive for Wimbledon.

I'm really looking forward to next week. Hope for a good draw and great run. Would be really important to gain some points for the ranking.

Just too bad that Daniela left out a great chance of winning another tournament. If she had won today, I think the draw would have been wide open.
