I'm not sure if Kuznetsova's playing in the final of another tournament at the same time as Daniela is playing her first round match is going to help or hinder Daniela's prospects in the next round (that is, if she makes it...)

Interesting nonetheless. Might be able to see Daniela get a solid top ten win if Sveta is tired.

Daniela seems to be on cruise control.

4-0 in the second. She seems to be continuing her good form. She just needs some good wins to justify a better ranking. Her form is surely there.

EDIT: 5-0 now. :D

I personlly think the fact that Kuznetsova is still playing Stuttgart will hinder her as opposed to Daniela.
They will probably play on Tuesday, which means Svetlana has less than 48 hours from playing the final in Germany to stepping onto the court in Rome. Whether Svetlana wins or loses, I definately think it favours Daniela.

Svetlana hasn't won a tour title since New Haven 2007! So I guess she is very keen to take the title here; her best opportunity for some time.

Well Daniela couldn't quite manage the bagel set, which is a shame, but she wins comfortably anyway, breaking Dushevina for the fourth time in the second set to win the match 6-4 6-1 in 1 hour 17 minutes and book her place in the second round. Will we see a repeat of her 2007 Rome performance?

6-4, 6-1

Good win by Daniela. I'm actually optimistic for the next round :)

Great start into the Rome-week for Daniela. Really convincing win against Dushevina, only from the stats.
6:4 6:1 looks quite comfortably for me.
Now against Kuznetsova will be a much tougher level. She is in really great form at the moment. Seems like she will win the title this week in Stuttgart.

But also Daniela is improving a lot during the last weeks IMO. Hope the work with Lari Passos will continue. As I said last week, IMO one of the best coaches on the tour (men and women).

I am shocked by this comfortable win! I really thought that it was going to be a 3 set slug fest! Congrats Daniela, it's a shame she's got Kuznetsova next as it'll be very tough but I'm glad that she'll have more practice at playing top 10 players.

It depends on how you look at it. If she's fit enough Sveta might not waver until later in the tournament and might have the strength to produce some good tennis against Daniela - and there's no question of her form considering how she's playing against Dinara. My confidence for the next round stems more from Daniela's current good form. Although i thought the same when Daniela was playing Dinara, but i was wrong. If Daniela plays well, i think she can challenge Sveta regardless. If Sveta is playing poorly, is unprepared or tired, then i'd expect Daniela to win.

Yeah Danka!

Nice and good win. Hopefully she play well against Sveta!
