i liked how larri passos was standing up towards the last few games and really egging Daniela on!!

aside from her last service game, this was a nice effort from Daniela, though plenty of room for improvement. she always managed to break back after being broken herself, so that was good. she never really let cornet take a big lead

first top 20 win since sydney last year, and first top 15 win since nov 2007!

excellent! this could be the confidence boosting win she needs!

The match was a typical Daniela-Cornet match with Daniela doing most of the ball striking and Cornet retrieving and counterpunching. Daniela was hitting the ball fairly flat while Cornet was using a lot of topspin. Unlike in Australia or Paris Daniela was able to sustain her level while, it was Cornet that fell away and she made more errors. Daniela hit 54 winners and 54 UEs and some of the errors were because of Cornet's retrieving while some were just out. There generally weren't that many bad errors. Daniela was dictating most of the play and she was able to maintain a pretty good level throughout the match.

Daniela's second serve was still a bit weak as Cornet was able to make inroads on it, but Daniela returned well and she hit some great return winners. The only time that Daniela played really badly was when she served for the match at 5-3 and she made some bad errors but that was disappointment at missing the match point in the previous game and Alison Lang calling a ball from Cornet that landing out the line in, Daniela stopped play as it landed and Lang came down to check and said it was out and Daniela couldn't believe it. I'm convinced that Lang did that because Cornet complained about an out call earlier in the set. Daniela regrouped at the changeover, got her focus back and was able to break Cornet to win.

Daniela didn't make more noise than usual and she didn't draw a heart on court either, so still a bit to go. I'll take a few Roland Garros titles to help her on the way.
