Razzano just beat Zvonareva in straight sets. Holy Cow! If this was the level of play she showed against Daniela, then Daniela has nothing to be ashamed of. At least Daniela was able to take a set off Razzano and not just any set, a breadstick set! I must say I was impressed by Razzano in that match. She was hitting flat deep groundstrokes, was moving Zvonareva around the court and was getting a lot of balls back.

For the sake of comparison:
- Razzano wins 98 out of 187 points and Zvonareva wins 89 out of 187 points.
- Razzano wins 95 out of 187 points and Daniela wins 92 out of 187 points.

Perhaps we've been initially too hard on Daniela for that loss. I know its a different day and a different match, but Razzano beat the world no.2 and no.5 in straight sets, and Daniela won a set against her 6-1. Not much of a consolation, but maybe it can put her performance in some sort of perspective. Whilst I'm still disappointed that Daniela didn't win, I don't feel that depressed about Daniela's performance now, in light of Razzano's ridiculous good play.

Damn that AO 2008 SF! Damn that illness! Damn that foot injury! I want things to change already! :help:

I second the motion!!

I THIRD the motion! :D

Wow, Razzano is an underdog here. I guess Daniela is okay now since 2 of the Top 5 lost to Razzano too.

We have to give Razz all the credit. She has not only played well but also had such a fighting spirit. She looked like she was gonna die in the second set but we saw no sign of giving up, just fighting all the time even though when she was a break down. I wish Danka could do that.

I guess that if we saw the results , Daniela was the "better" player she faced as she was the only one that won a set against Razzano .
Well , she will climb on the ranks next week and if she win 2 matches in IW , maybe she can be seeded to Roland Garros .

yeah Razzano beating Zvonareva in straight sets kind of eases the pain. None of us saw the match between Razzano and Daniela, we've only had the chance to see Safina vs Razzano and Zvonareva vs Razzano and in those matches, Razzano has been hitting winners from everywhere. It seems to me Razzano is having the week of her career and Daniela was unlucky to become a victim. Maybe things aren't looking as bad as we thought they did yesterday. Still not bright, but not as bad as presumed. It is always hard when we don't actually see what happened on court.

Razzano is just in amazing form right now and she's one of those players that on her day can beat anyone as she can hit winners from all over the court and this is what she's doing this week. I remember Razzano crushing Hingis at the 06 US Open and wondering why someone that could play that well hadn't achieved more, well, this week she is. Razzano is just in the zone this week and Daniela took a set from her which the Australian Open finalist and semi-finalist weren't able to do.

Daniela is playing at a fairly reasonable level and has been competitive in her matches this year, so she does have a base to build on. She has enough confidence and belief to play well as there have been times in all her matches when she has played well but she's had lapses which her opponents have ruthlessly taken advantage of. Sometimes, the opponent has just been too good. It's just about getting the breakthrough and also getting a bit of luck. Daniela just needs a bit more consistency but the base is there.
Plus, she has been doing well in doubles so good performances and results there will help build her confidence for singles.

Seeing Razzano win against Zvonareva makes me feel a fair bit better.

It is always hard when we don't actually see what happened on court.Very true. That's why I don't like people jumping to conclusions too quickly when all they have at their disposal are often inaccurate scoreboard stats.

I was expecting Razzano to beat Kanepi but NOT 6-1 , 6-2 .
I mean , she's really having the week of her career , and we should be so bitter about Daniela's defeat against her !
She beat the nr 2 , nr 5 and nr 24 in straight sets , and Daniela managed to took her a set !

Razzano will play sixth seed Venus Williams for the title. She beat sister Serena for the second straight time, 6-1 2-6 7-6[3].

The last results of Razzano make me feel much better, and it also enhances Danielas performance.

Just bad, as such a good run into the final might have also been possible for Daniela. :(
