Great fight from Daniela in that first set. The pessimist in me was nervous she was going to get broken after getting back on serve at 5-4, but she came away with an easy service game to level it at 5-5, and didn't look back at all. Minor stumble at 4-2 second set, but I didn't feel she was going to lose from then on. And that running forehand DTL in the first set was :delicious: Reminded me of the running forehand DTL to save set point in AO R1 tiebreaker.

Nice and solid win against Wickmayer, who albeit hasn't had a good season so far played reasonably well in that match.

Too bad the livestream sucked for me. I could only watch a couple of points, before the stream lagged and got all choppy.

I like the stats. Did she really serve 9 aces? She also did so in one of the Aus Open matches. Her serve is getting more precise it seems and does it more often.

She showed better signs on her serve during this match. Hopefully it keeps going.

well Cibulkova won, so 3-0 for Slovakia. Daniela is not playing the 4th and meaningless rubber then. Good choice I guess; on to Paris, and the less experience player can get some matchplay in the Fed Cup

i noticed Pat Etcheberry was sitting next to Daniela during Domi's match, i guess they continue working together, so no more Marco Panichi ? I always thought he stayed working with her , cause he isn't from the Sanchez-Casal academy, but i guess not...

Not sure about this, but I swear I saw Marco Panichi in Daniela's box during the AO Doubles Final, so I'm sure she's still working with him???

Shame really,as Daniela was singing his praises last year. I wonder what went wrong?

Anyway, congrats to Danka and Domi on a job well done!

We'll see if Panichi's in Paris with Daniela or in Rotterdam with Bolelli. Last year Panichi was in Basel with Bolelli instead of Luxembourg with Daniela.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

They did the draws for the matches in April:
Spain v. Serbia
France v. Slovakia
Germany v. China
Argentina v. Ukraine

This is what is so ridiculous about Fed Cup seeding/random draws. The four best teams, in essence, are playing each other and so are the four worst teams.

Argentina playing Ukraine for a place in the world group is crazy. Neither have particularly good players and I still find it hard to believe that Argentina got in the world group in the first place.
China, with a good team (i.e. Li Na, Zheng Jie and Peng Shuai) should get back in the world group, and I would imagine Serbia will enter the world group (for the first time) too (if they have Jankovic and Ivanovic). France against Slovakia will be a close match in my oppinion (now that Slovakia has a more well-rounded team with Daniela, Dominika and Magdalena). Daniela and Dominika are both very capable of beating Alize and Amelia in the singles matches, but all of the rubbers will probably be close. Should be an interesting weekend.

Should Slovak be addressed as "Slovakia" or "Slovak Republic"?

The official, full-length name is 'Slovak Republic' (like 'Czech Republic'). Slovakia is just a shorter version.

I watched the majority of Daniela's match with Wickmayer and much like Bahriahn the pessimist in me kicked in and I thought that Daniela was going to let what should of been a comfortable win slip or at least make it hard for herself. Thankfully Daniela came through it and should be pleased with a tough, hard thought win.

I would of liked to see Daniela get to play the 4th rubber but as they tie was dead by then you cant really blame the slovak coach for putting out the youngster, who by the looks of the scoreline put in a decent effort against Flipkens.

As for the draw, its a tough one but certainly winnable. Based on todays defeat to Cornet off the back of her defeat to her in the Open you would probably say right now that Slovakia's best hope for a win will rest of Cibulkova, who unfortunately for us fans of Daniela is in better form and the better player at present.

Slovakia as a team are certainly a much stronger prospect now with Daniela, Dominika and Magdalena, and a slovakia in is certainly a possibility.
