It confuses me. She does well in doubles, singles not so good. I hear a lot of things. Why am I not seeing what I hear? In the paper I'd think I'd get the full story. I will check tomorrow for the good, the bad and the ugly.

Just do it Daniela.

I still havent really got a lot to say about the singles, which is why i have reserved any views i did have and will continue to reserve them. I hope im wrong but i do think this is going to be a long arduous season and maybe doubles can offer some light relief and with the brilliant win last night that may well be the case. There is no doubt that Daniela's concentration should be on singles and she really really needs to improve there if she has any hope of attaining her goal of reaching the season ending championships which she stated in a pre season interview, but for now lets enjoy the doubles successes until Daniela steps out on the singles court again next week

Great win in the doubles. Hopefully that is a confidence booster for her. Certainly it is more match practice and conditioning, and hopefully it helps in her matches in Sydney and most importantly the Aus Open.

Having had a couple of days for her singles loss to sink in, its better she lost her singles in this tournament than in Sydney or the Open. Hopefully her loss in singles will open her eyes up as to what she needs to do and work on what she needs to improve so that she is ready for the bigger tournaments. Of course, the draw was perfect for her and its a shame she didnt take advantage of it, but sometimes players need a loss like this to put things in perspective and focus on what they need to do to improve. That's my 2 cents anyway. I just hope she picks up her performance. Seems like a lot of the "top" players have been struggling anyway against opponents they should be beating comfortable - e.g. Mauresmo against Coin; Ivanovic against Vinci; Safina against Hseih.

Anyway, here's the order of play for Thursday 8 January:
Show Court 1: start time at 10:30
WTA Doubles:Groenefeld/King vs Bondarenko/Bondarenko
WTA Doubles: Hantuchova/Sugiyama vs Jans/Rosolska

:D :D Superb win by Daniela and Ai and given the quality of opponent, Daniela's best win for a long, long time. Winning in doubles and having fun playing with a good friend is great for Daniela. In 2006, she had some very tough singles losses and her form was relatively modest for much of the year, but she was doing well in doubles and that kept her confidence and form up until she was able to transfer her doubles form to singles.

Daniela's a top player in singles and doubles and a win like this just shows how good she is and can give her the surge of confidence which she needs right now. It gives Daniela a positive template to refer to for singles and the knowledge that she can still be successful against top opponents, so that should help her in close singles matches. Let's build on this and go on. Great win Daniela and Ai.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

A great win in doubles against one of the best teams on the tour.

Hopefully Ai has a good influence on Daniela and her game. Especially the fun they have on court together is certainly good to get rid of the pressure.

Mediabank looks like she has trouble ahead and trouble behind. No one is getting a BYE. That will filter out those who want to play and those who don't really quick. But there isn't anyone there she can't beat. There is no magical bullet. If she figures her way out of the AO -- no more mistakes -- I think . . . I don't even know anymore. I want it for her. Wait and see, right?

Daniela and Ai lost 6-3, 6-4. From 3-3 in the third, they were broken to fall behind but broke back after Rosolska double faulted three times in the next game. But at 4-4, they gave the break right back and Jans was able to serve it out at 40-15 to close it out.

Oh, I was really thinking they would take it all the way and win the title. That was what I expected to see. I'm really surprised now.

Daniela would fit into that Eurosport commercial about Dubai - full of many surprises. On the other hand this is quite typical for her and Sugiyama, losing to underdogs after beating a top class pair.

A very good win followed up with a very bad loss. Daniela and Ai shouldn't be losing to doubles pairings of this calibre.
On to Sydney...
