So she's drawn in a tough quarter with Serena and Dementieva.
It gets worse, can you believe that this is Daniela's full quarter:

Daniela-Sugiyama
Wozniacki-Sfar
Tanasugarn-Arvidsson
Dementieva-K.Bondarenko

Serena-Govortsova
Errani-Stosur
Peng-Suarez Navarro
Cornet-Vaidisova

If she even reaches the third round, that would be a significant accomplishment seeing that she'll have to beat two good players to get there. I really hope she can get past Sugiyama this time at the least as she's become quite the haunt.

Aside: What the hell is a stiff like Sfar doing in this draw? Nadia Petrova cannot play but Selima Sfar gets a free invite? Shouldn't the Olympics be all about merit, not trying to concoct some ethnically perfect stew.

I really hope danka takes it one match at the time because she has a horrible draw. An Ai has been in great form this past months... All of the players in her quarter are good or great. Ai, Wozniacki, Dementieva and last but not least: Serena... Man... a draw from hell. But come on Danka! Do your best!

worst draw ever. Sugiyama again. Really really tough first round. About 30 other players I would rather have her play. And if she makes it out of there alive, Wozniacki. Wozniacki is in form, and her confidence is right up there.

Good thing she entered New Haven.

I dont want to be pessimistic, but if she makes it pass Ai it'll be a big improvement in Danka's current form... Danka, why are you so unlucky with draws? :(

if I could be granted one wish, it would be for Daniela to reach the QF.

There's 64 players in the draw. 16 seeds. Ai is number 27 on the entry list, Wozniacki 19, so both in the top of unseeded players. Really tough.

Good luck Daniela. Show some olymic fighting spirit and trash the opponents.

Edit, if Daniela gets to the second round, there is a very good chance it will be shown on TV here as she faces the only Dane

:eeek: :x

:slovakia:

Realistically, Daniela can beat Sugiyama, she just needs to execute well and not make errors (and vary that damn 2nd serve).
Wozniacki isn't a power hitter and in normal circumstances shouldn't be able to dictate play nor produce a galore of winners against Daniela. In normal circumstances I would expect Daniela to win.
I read about very hot and humid weather in Beijing so it will go down to physical condition and since Daniela always liked hot conditions at Indian Wells I believe she won't have any problems to adjust. But yeah, this draw is very tough. She doesn't deserve this.

the olympic games is made for these kinda things, in swimming you have guys who are one minute slower on 200 meters free style
it's for everyone
besides every country have his limits for sending players, that's also in cycling and some other sports

This draw couldnt be any worse, in singles and in doubles! Sugi and then potencially Wozniacki in the first two rounds, then in doubles you have the chinese team who will be backed alla FED/Davis Cup.

I just hope Daniela makes the most of the experience cause I honestly am gutted about this draw.

This was the one draw i wasnt looking forward too the most because of how much I know Daniela was looking forward to it. Any WTA or Grand Slam draw this year, doesnt matter but this one was the one i wanted her to get a nice draw and shes got a shocker

If you think Sumi can stop her then you'd have another thing coming.

Shouldn't the Olympics be all about merit, not trying to concoct some ethnically perfect stew.

Tennis isn't really about to be on the olympic track, you know. But the ethnics are still there for the taking. Its like I can pet your dog but it always goes back to you. I rooted for the Countries in the past. :slovakia:

It's very unlucky to have a draw like this. I think Sugiyama could cause an upset here, especially since she has had some good results recently. I just really don't want another loss to Ai. In saying this Daniela should be extra motivated for this event seen as it is one of the highlights of her year so maybe she can get into round 2.
Im not too worried about Wozniacki, but beyond here is very difficult. You never know, Tanasugarn could cause an upset and knock out Dementieva, which would make things rosier.
Alize Cornet also has a tough draw - Vaidisova in round 1, possibly one of the crowd favourites in round 2 and most likely S.Williams in round 3. I would definately choose Daniela's draw over this.
