Daniela starts with Jennifer Brady in the first round of qualifying. She beat Brady in the final qualifying round at Roland Garros ins straight sets so she's got a recent win over Brady and knows her style. I don't know what to expect here as Daniela's played only two matches since Wimbledon and they were both tough three set losses. Brady won an ITF in Granby last month and she lost in the final round of US Open qualifying to Townsend. Recent losses have been to Babos, Svitolina and Cornet so generally she's been losing to good players. A win for Daniela would give her a good chance of qualifying.

A really good win by Daniela, she absolutely dominated the match against She broke serve at will and dominated the first set. The second set was a bit tighter as there were four consecutive breaks of serve and Daniela had 2 BPs to make it five and go 4-2 up but Brady held. Daniela then held easily before breaking Brady and then she served it out for a fairly easy win. That's a good quick win which will give Daniela momentum and

Daniela plays Miharu Imanishi of Japan in the next round. She's ranked 502 but she thrashed no. 370 Jessica Moore 6-1 6-0 in the first round so she's got to be respected and she's got home advantage.

#557! I don't know what went wrong for Dani in the 2nd set, but she certainly recovered quite well. Her service numbers were pretty good, and my guess is that her opponent was not a mad bomber. Onward!

A good win by Daniela as she won the third set in a bagel. The crucial game was the third game in the final set where Daniela saved a BP before winning it on her 3rd GP and in the next game on Imanishi's serve she saved a GP before breaking and she went on to win the net two games to love. Daniela was broken in the first game of the match but she broke right back on her 3rd BP in the next game and she had BPs in all of Imanishi's service games in the first set breaking in 3 out of 4 games. The second set was tougher as Daniela was broken twice and didn't have a BP but she regrouped well in the third set.

Daniela next plays Erika Sema of Japan who won her match on a retirement. She's ranked 369 and her career has been seen on the ITF circuit.

There was a long rain delay yesterday, followed by a huge gag job in the first match by the eventual loser that caused a 1st set tiebreaker and a longer match than it should have been. I well remember when such events caused considerable consternation here in the Forum, especially if Daniela lost. Now, we are just happy when she plays at all.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Daniela is re-entering the wonderful world of doubles this week. Alison Riske is the partner of the week. The first opponents are McHale and Moore.

Lost 4-6 6-3 3-6. Serve wasn't good enough-only won 50% of her first serve points. :(
