We'll see how Daniela does here. Given her results and ranking we can't expect too much from her but the Wimbledon committee have recognised her achievements in tennis and the respect she has by giving her the wildcards. Getting a win in Mallorca will have been a boost for Daniela and she's always played well on grass but she'll be the underdog against pretty much anyone she plays. We'll see what the draw is like and it would be wonderful if she could get a win or two here. |

I HATE THIS DRAW...CRUEL...no chance for more than defending her 2nd round points from last year... Therefore will be at best ranked 190 after Wimbledon...maybe this really is the end...the thought of Daniela's last match to be against Serena would be very depressing... |

This is a really tough draw. Daniela's never beaten McHale although all the matches have been on clay so this match is taking place on a better surface for Daniela. Daniela will still be underdog so we'll see what she can do. The second round could be tricky but Daniela just has to concentrate on McHale and take things one match at a time. Daniela will play on Tuesday as the defending champion plays on Tuesday. |

Daniela & Donna Vekis play Tatjana Maria & Madison Brengle in doubles. The winner plays either Atawo/Spears or Han/Chan in the 2nd round. First round is definitely winnable but Atawo/Spears have been tough opponents for Daniela in the past when Atawo was Kops-Jones. |

This is disappointing. I could only follow the match on live scores as I couldn't find a stream. Judging by the stats, it seems like Daniela's serve wasn't effective enough as she won fewer than half the points on her first serve in the match and was under 40% points won on her second serve. As has been the case with Daniela over the past year, the first set was crucial as McHale broke Daniela in the eleventh game and the served it out. Given that there were so many breaks in the first set, Daniela would have had a good chance to break McHale if McHale had the pressure of serving to stay in the set rather than serving for the set. When Daniela went a set down she was always in trouble as she's only had two wins in the past year after going a set down. It was 2-2 as Daniela fought back from 0-2 down but McHale won the last 4 games. All through the match, it seems that Daniela was dictating and McHale was retrieving and rallies would end either with a Daniela winner or error while McHale would largely keep the ball in play. Daniela hit 25 winners but 37 UEs while McHale had 16 winners but only 11 errors. Hitting more than three times the errors of the opponent makes it very difficult to win. Hopefully Daniela has a decent run in the doubles. Everything just feels a bit sad right now as I wonder how much longer Daniela will keep going. I'd always said that there's always next year in the past but I can't say that with certainty this year. |

Hi guys I was there at the match. Basically Daniela played some great rallies and was dictating so much of the match but the errors came just as much. I don't like her new racket at all...it doesn't seem to have much pop... The first set she really should have got it to a tiebreak...I guess she felt she had to really go for her shots because mchale kept getting everything back. I pretty much think that that will probably be her last wimbledon singles match unless she has a miracle rest of the year. I was glad I was there if it is... |
