In other news Daniela managed to get a WC for Wimbledon...so at least we'll see her once more there at least.

I didn't see the Cirstea-Putintseva match so I don't know if Cirstea played well or if Putintseva had letdown after Roland Garros or a combination, either way Cirstea's in form having come through qualifying and she's had a lot of wins during the clay season including a quarter-final in Madrid. |

That was very disappointing. She just didn't have the same pop on her shots and her return was really bad today. I felt Cirstea played solid but within herself. Daniela got unlucky in the 7th game of the 2nd set where Cirstea had 2 lucky mishits that randomly went in which secured Cirstea the break.. In other news Daniela managed to get a WC for Wimbledon...so at least we'll see her once more there at least. |

Cirstea's % of points won on 1st serve were crazy good the whole match. Thanks for explaining part of the reason, eddy. My sense was that Daniela was in the match all the way through. When she held off the first match point and got to duece, I was harboring hopes of a heroic comeback, something that would not have remotely crossed my mind for most of this season. The Wimbledon wild card is ab fab news for me. If the world's first or second most prestigious event sees Dani as still relevant and a drawing card, that speaks volumes. There's still life in our gal's tennis game, and I wouldn't put it past her to win a couple of matches and make a little run if the draw is kind. |

Disappointing result for Daniela today although Cirstea played well and she had a bit of luck at crucial times. Cirstea's form over the past few months has been very good so she'd have been the form player coming in. The wildcard for Wimbledon is fantastic news. Sixteenth straight time she's played. It means that she can either rest up to go in fully fit or she could get a late entry into Eastbourne and try to pick up some points there. |
