We'll see how Daniela does here. It's a fairly strong field and Daniela's about the lowest ranked player there so it won't be easy as she'd be the underdog in most of the matches although she's capable of beating a lot of the players there. San Antonio's somewhere new for Daniela so hopefully a change of scene can bring about a change of fortune. We'll see what the draw is

Do the friggin goombas that run this tournament ever want to post the draw? It was supposed to be released last night. Minor leaguers. Guess we have to get used to this.

She doesn't appear to be in the draw. There would appear to be health problems that we do not know about.

Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia is a late scratch because of the flu, event organizers said.

I suppose that Daniela will be in qualifying for Miami next week and then she's playing an ITF in France at the end of the month. Daniela's withdrawn from a lot of tournaments over the past year and the wear and tear of being a pro since the 90s is taking its toll. She's never been the same since she played Dubai the day after winning Pattaya last year because that absolutely wrecked her.

While spending way too much time waiting for the draw that mattered not here, I discovered that there's one of these WTA 125 events in November at Carlsbad. Ahhh, memories. My wife and I have briefly touched on making another trip there if Dani enters. Then it hit me.....

In front of my eyes, Daniela is 3-0, and in those two glorious days in Carlsbad in 2013, the total score of the two matches I attended (one with the ingrate Hingis) was 24-2. If all of you would agree, we could take up a collection and allow me to follow our gal to her next few tourneys. That will end this freaking slump!

(As you can see, life has become better for me the last few days and I'm back to my no-screws-attached self. Look out!)

I don't disagree, Chungwit, but I have two thoughts. One is that even if that proved to be her career killer, when I reflect on Daniela 10 years from now, I shall look back at that display of incredible intestinal fortitude in winning the Dubai match and feel a swell of pride. The other is that since last year's Wimbledon, Dani unfortunately has had all kinds of time to rest, if she chooses, between one first round loss and the next.
