We'll see how Daniela does here. Returning to the scene of her greatest triumphs can inspire her but her recent record in Indian Wells isn't good, she's out of form and she had had a devastating defeat last week so it's hard to be optimistic. At the same time Daniela's achievement here have been recognised with a wildcard and she gets to go back to a place she loves to do what she loves. Hopefully the draw will be kind to her and she gets a match she can be competitive in. Daniela will be the underdog against most of the other players in the draw but you can't win the lottery without a ticket and Daniela's got a ticket so we'll see what happens.

Every year, Daniela makes the USA a better place just by entering it. Now, if there is a way to get her to make her home in America and send Mr. Trump permanently to another country, that would help make America great again! :o

Let's Go, Daniela!

While I would much prefer Daniela get closer to 550 career wins with some at Indian Wells, maybe the WTA can push her over that mark by forfeiting all of Ms. Maria PED's wins against her.

Time so often settles matters. So, as to the 2008 dispute of whose house Indian Wells was, well Maria, it's not yours anymore....you just got yourself evicted!

Let's Go, Daniela!

Daniela's got Daria Kasatkina in the first round with the winner playing sixth seed Suarez Navarro in the second round. Kasatkina's ranked 48th and she got to the semi-final in St Petersburg last month beating Cibulkova and she also beat Venus Williams in Auckland. She mainly played ITFs last year although she came through qualifying to get to the third round of the US Open beating Gavrilova along the way and she also came through qualifying to get to the semi-final in Moscow beating Begu & Suarez Navarro. Kasatkina's one of the up & comers on tour and will have a lot of confidence and momentum from her recent win so this will be a tough match for Daniela. We'll just see what she can do.

Kasatkina was four when Daniela first won Indian Wells

Daniela plays on Stadium Court. It's the 4th match scheduled (2 men, 1 WTA ahead of it). They start at 11:00AM California time.
When will any of us get to post information on a second round match? :|

Things are kind of f***ed up in my life right now (at least it's not my wife in hospital this time), and I'm not really up for another loss by Daniela, but I can't see much how that can be avoided.

Yup. No solace here. 2-6, 4-6, one and done again.

Disappointing but not unexpected. Daniela played some good tennis at times and hit some great shots but she also made a lot of errors (33UEs to 17 by Kasatkina) and Kasatkina was very solid. Kasatkina's balls had a lot of kick on them and Daniela put a lot of shots long. There were two times in the match that were decisive, the first was at 1-1 in the first set when Daniela was 40-15 on serve but lost the next 4 points and Kasatkina used the momentum to go 5-1 up in the first set. The second was at 3-2 in the second when Daniela had won the previous two games and had a BP at 40-30 and she put a shot just long, it would have been a winner otherwise and Daniela would have been 4-2 up with the momentum and Kasatkina would have been under pressure. Instead Kasatkina held and went on to break Daniela in the next game to put herself in control of the match. I'm not too upset about this as Kasatkina is a really good young player who's had a lot of quality wins recently so I knew that Daniela was the underdog but it would still have been lovely if she'd won. I just hope that she's able to get a win at Indian Wells just one more time.

I'm sorry to hear about you wife, Alex, I hope she gets well soon.

Just long on the key potential BP....of course. Our gal cannot catch a break.

Greatly appreciated, Chungwit, but I may have confused you. My wife's not in hospital, and I was saying that my present downer issues in my life at least don't include that.
Maybe Daniela can break through in San Antonio and bring me cheer.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Daniela did play a lot better in the second set-hopefully she can focus on that and keep the form up in Texas. Kasatkina is IMHO going to be a very fine player and will do great things in her career.

Best wishes Alex-hope things improve soon.

Thank you so much, Benji. You guys in the Forum are fantastic.

In light of recent earth shattering events, one thing that brings me joy and allows us to be Daniela's fans forever and proud of it is the knowledge that everything Dani has achieved in tennis, she earned fair and square. Think of all of her 2 1/2-3 hour 3 set matches she has pulled out without any enhancers needed to give her an extra push late in the match. We'll probably never fully know who all of the juicers are on the WTA tour, but we can hold our heads high knowing that the person we cheer for isn't one of them. You go, Dani!

Let's Go, Daniela!
