We'll just have to see what the draw is here because that will be so important. She's played fewer tournaments in the summer hardcourt season than at any time in her career and she got thrashed inIstanbul and Cincinnati so she's not coming in here with a lot of wins or momentum/ We've got to hope that she's fully fit and healthy and is able to do herself justice. Daniela obviously isn't seeded so she could play anyone. I think she'd be the underdog against anyone in the top 50 and it would be a tough match against most of the players there. I know that Daniela will give this everything she can. Hopefully she can get a reasonable first round and then we can take things from there. |

Draw's just been made. Daniela starts with Misaki Doi of Japan in the 1st round, Doi's ranked 88. The winner plays either Belinda Bencic or Sesil Karatantcheva in the 2nd round. It's a reasonable enough draw as Daniela's avoided a seed or a dangerous floater and Doi's results haven't been great this year as she's mostly played qualifiers although she won a set against Azarenka here last year and she also won sets against Ivanovic at Roland Garros and Svitolina at Wimbledon so she can give top players tough matches at Slams. Doi beat Krunic in Cincinnati qualifying and Konjuh & Dellacqua in Toronto qualifying and these players have similar rankings to Daniela. Doi will have a bit of confidence and Daniela has to respect her ability although this is a much better opener than it could have been. |

Having watched most of the US Open series, there aren't that many players in form. Unfortunately,Bencic is one of them. Best of luck Danka. |

That's actually a pretty good draw...hopefully at least 2nd round but will have to play smart to beat Doi. |

I would gladly take a win if Daniela can secure it, then hope for a pleasant surprise or two. |

Daniela's playing last on Court 10 - I think there is a stream, but will be a night match most likely as two men's matches and one women's matches before her... |

I'd have preferred Daniela's match to have been after the women's match rather than after the two men's matches because she can plan for the match a bit better as the women's match with tiebreaks will be the same as the regular tour but a men's match could be over in three sets but will probably last five with someone coming back from two sets down to take it to five sets. At the same time, it's the same for both players. At least Daniela will have enough time for a coffee. |

I am a wee bit surprised that Daniela's not playing doubles, but considering her health problems this year, I'm not totally shocked. She'll want to save herself for singles and minimise the wear and tear on her body. Karolina Pliskova @KaPliskova 40m40 minutes ago Great last hit with Daniela, and tomorrow finally match #usopen @dhantuchova @ Pliskova's twitter |

Annoyed she's not doing doubles especially with the Olympics next year. She needs to find a Slovak partner asap as Cibulkova and Rybarikova have teamed up and she has more chance of getting to play doubles at the Olympics than singles... |

Post subject: | Re: US Open, Flushing Meadow |
That's a good point, eddy, if Daniela can't get into the Olympics in singles she's got a good chance in doubles or even mixed. Last time Daniela played with Cibulkova between Wimbledon and the US Open but there isn't really another good Slovakian doubles player but there are a few good singles players. The cut-off date for Olympics is after Roland Garros. Daniela has to focus on tonight's match and get the wins she needs. |

1st set 1-0, Daniela breaks to 15. 1-1, Daniela broken to 30, she was 30-0 up. 1-2, Doi holds to 15. Doi's actually dictating a lot of the rallies and Daniela's having to retrieve. 1-3, Daniela broken, she was 40-30 up but lost the next 3 points. 1-4, Daniela was 0-40 but lost the next 5 points. She's having chances but she's just not taking them. 2-4, Daniela holds to 0. 2-5, Doi holds to 30. 3-5, Daniela holds to 15. 3-6, Daniela had a BP at 30-40 but Doi won the next 3 points. Daniela's 1/5 on Bps while Doi's 2/2. She's had so many chances that she hasn't taken. If she can raise her level this match is very winnable but she has to take her chances. |
