Daniela & Date-Krumm lost 6-3 6-1 in doubles. What a crappy day this has been.

Daniela's season as Brian Clough's career:
Pattaya = Derby,
Clay = Leeds,
Nottingham = Forest.

I was hoping that it would be European Champions Forest rather than 1993 relegated Forest.

Nottingham is the closest tournament to me, but I have been ignoring it because it's only had ATP matches, until this year.
I booked a ticket for yesterday before the OOP was out, and was disappointed that neither Danka or Aga were playing - but I did see them both on the practice courts first thing.
After I'd checked out the layout of the site, I bought a ticket for today.
Last night's play was halted by rain, but today there was plenty of sun. It was also quite windy, which meant it felt cold when the sun was blocked by clouds.
Danka had to call for her trainer several times during her matches, today, but didn't need any medical attention.
Her singles match started well; she won the first 2 games quite quickly, but then lost 6 in a row :(
She won the 2nd set, and the 3rd went into a tie-break, which could have gone either way.
The doubles had some nice shots, but also some awful ones..
I'll add some links when I've uploaded some of my photos and videos..

Thanks for the report, nl2304. How well did Daniela play? What was her serve like, how powerful were her shots and how well was she moving? Did Linette play well or did Daniela play badly?

It's a pity she wasn't playing today instead; the sun is out, and I don't think it's as windy.. several serves were not played, after the throw was affected by gusts (and it got quite chilly when clouds blocked out the sun - players didn't know how many layers to wear)
Danka wins plenty of points, but also slams balls into the net far too often. (particularly after having compared 3 balls and rejected 2 of them).
The number of times she reaches 'Advantage', only to give it away, is crazy; she takes longer to finish a game than other players take to win one. Aga reached 6-0 in just over 20 minutes, yesterday - by reaching even difficult balls, and getting them back over the net..
Linette kept on the pressure, but Danka could easily have prevailed (especially in the tie-break).. a few crucial points would have made a big difference.
I took photos and tried out the video on my camera; I will add links when I've uploaded them. Access to the practice & outside courts was good (not even wire netting along the side close to the path), and I got a front-row seat on centre..

That's interesting, thanks for that, nl2304.

Aegon Open tennis: Former World No.5 is loving Nottingham and vows to return after loss

By Nottingham Post | Posted: June 09, 2015

Her first visit to Nottingham may not have gone quite to plan, but Daniela Hantuchova would love to come back.

The former world number five was one of two big names to fall on the second day of the main draw at the Aegon Open Nottingham, along with one-time French Open champion Francesca Schiavone.

Pole Magda Linette got the better of Hantuchova in three hard-fought sets, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), but the latter was so impressed by the grass courts and facilities at the Nottingham Tennis Centre, she would be happy to return.

"I have to say, the condition of Centre Court was extremely great. Except Wimbledon, I don't think I've ever played on such a good court, so I was really nicely surprised by that," said the Slovakian. "Training wise, it's been great conditions here and hopefully I can get as much practice in as possible before the next tournament."

Asked if that meant she would make a second appearance in the city, she added: "Yes, I've been saying to my team, it's always nice to come to new places after 15 or 16 years on the tour.

"It's nice to explore new cities and we've been loving it so far.

"The courts have been extremely well prepared, the gym is great and the city's nice, so no complaints."

Hantuchova had chances to gain an edge on her opponent, but in a match littered with missed break points she converted just eight of 17.

"I thought it was a very high level match. I thought we both played really well, given the conditions – it was very windy out there and pretty cold," she said. "For a first match on grass, it was pretty high level.

"Unfortunately it didn't go my way, but there are a lot of positives I can take from this match.

"Especially in the third set being 5-2 down, two breaks, I never gave up and kept fighting for every single point.

"I was trying to be aggressive, even though it was tough with the conditions. She came up with some pretty good shots when she needed to and to break her was probably just one point here or there."

Been away a couple of days, and spent a few minutes pondering whether Dani will EVER win a singles match again. (Call it a reverse jinx. If I convince myself of that, she will immediately prove me wrong. :D ) So, knowing how the match went here, let me say that had Daniela pulled it out after all the service breaks, the sheriff of Nottingham would have had her arrested for Grand Larceny!
