We'll just see how Daniela does here. So much will depend on the draw and she's not on a good run of form and it's also been a while since she's had a win at a mandatory premier so any sort of run would be great. Daniela came in in worse form and ranked much lower two years ago and she had two top 20 wins so she can turn things around. Hopefully, she can get a decent draw and she's feeling good and healthy and she's able to play good tennis.

1st Round vs Svitolina
2nd Round Ivanovic
3rd Round Suarez-Williams-Navarro
QF Serena/Venus/Azarenka

Horrid draw but was going to be.

Svitolina will be tough. She's through to the final in Marrakech beating McHale along the way and she thrashed Schmiedlova in the semi-final so she's in great form at the moment and she's one of the best up-and-coming players. Svitolina could have a let down and she won't have too much time to get used to the conditions in Madrid. Daniela will also be the underdog which will take the pressure off but this will be a tough match. This really is a tournament where Daniela has to take things one match at a time.

Daniela's not playing doubles.

Good. I want to see Daniela open with a top opponent and be challenged. It will also make a loss easier to take. With the one exception of Fed Cup, it's been quite a while since she has played even decently. Facing someone strong and red hot might bring out Daniela's best.

Svitolina won Marrakech, so she'll either have incredible momentum or she'll have a let down.

Ivanovic beat Dulgheru by retirement after losing the first set and winning the second on a tiebreak so she's the second round opponent, although Daniela has to get past Svitolina first and she's playing very well right now.

First match, Court 5, not before 2:00. Not much rest for Elina. Please take advantage, Dani.
OK, third one. Stand corrected. It's right when I attend church. Dang it.

Daniela's the third match on after two WTA matches with play starting at 11 am.

We really weren't able to celebrate Daniela's epic win over Barthel at Dubai the day after winning in Thailand and getting an hour of sleep flying through three time zones, roughly what Svitolina had to do. Never fear, I looked it up. Daniela's record in her first match after a tournament win is 2-5. All but one of them came within a day or two of the previous final. Daniela retired from one of them and complained of dizziness after another.Take from that whatever you like.

I really don't see Daniela beating Svitolina...she's super consistent and can run everything down and has weapons...

Daniela will have to get off to a good start and win the first set.

0-6 in 20 mins  in the first set Svitolina only lost ONE point on serve. Clearly Daniela's returning has gone wayward.

0-2 This is embarrassing...

0-3

1-3

1-4

2-4

JUST FUCKING HOLD DANI

3-4 FINALLY

3-5 and fails to hold to stay in 3-6

0-6 3-6

Whose been helping Daniela with her tennis recently?

Carlos should have committed to Daniela properly...her tennis is ziltch right now...

Marrakech to Madrid ain't no where near as tough as Pattaya to Dubai!

Oh dear, that's a thrashing. Svitolina is one of the best young players while Daniela's recent form hadn't been good so Daniela was always the underdog but I thought that it would be more competitive than it was. I hoped that Svitolina would have a let down after Marrakech or that she might be tired but she kept her form going and she'd won all her matches fairly easily and Madrid is only a couple of hours flight from Marrakech.

Looking at the positives Daniela converted 100% of her break points opportunities, unfortunately she only had 2 while Svitolina was 7/10 on Bps and Svitolina was all over Daniela's serve. The fact that Daniela's serve was so vulnerable is a concern.

We'll just see what Daniela can do in Rome but it's tough to see a big improvement in just over a week.

Thanks for the live scoring, eddy.

The other thing I didn't think of is that it's not a big deal for a precocious 20 year old to play 4 matches in 4 days, hop on a plane and play the next day.

Have we reached the stage where we shall joyfully accept the moments, fewer and further between, when Daniela does well on the court? Sure feels that way right now.

The arrangement with Carlos works hands on, but it's now beyond ridiculous. Next coach, please.

That is just horrific. Less than an hour? 6 DF and no aces on a court where Elina and her popgun serve got 7 aces?

Something has gone seriously wrong somewhere. Carlos wasn't going to coach Daniela this year-he was fairly categorical in stating his role was to prepare Daniela for the season but afterwards he would be busy with the academy. John-Laffnie de Jager has been conspicuous in his absence since Miami-where was he this week?
