Not unexpected, sadly. A shame, though.

2nd set:

1-0, Daniela breaks to 30. She did get a bit lucky as Muguruza hit a service winner at 30 all which was called out, Muguruza challenged and it was on the inside of the line and the point was replayed. Daniela ends up breaking.
2-0, Daniela holds to 0. Easily her best game of the match while Muguruza is pissed off.
3-0, Daniela breaks on her 3rd BP. She's got the momentum right now, playing her best tennis of the match and she's hitting winners which she wasn't in the first set.
3-1, Muguruza breaks to 30 on her 2nd BP.
4-1, Daniela breaks on her 3rd BP.
5-1, Daniela holds to 30 from 15-30, she's playing some really good tennis right now.
6-1, Daniela breaks to 30 on her 1st set point. 16 winners to 7 errors that set & 4/8 on BPs.

3rd set:

0-1, Muguruza breaks to 30, Muguruza got a net cord to help her out at 30 all.
0-2, Muguruza hols to 0, she's starting to play well again while Daniela made a couple of errors.
0-3, Muguruza breaks to 15.
0-4, Muguruza holds to 30, she's dictating the rallies again.
0-5, Muguruza breaks to 15. All Muguruza's points that game were errors by Daniela the worst was when she put a volley in the net at 0-15.
0-6, Muguruza wins on her 5th or 5th MP, I lost count. Daniela had a couple of BPs. The last game was the longest of the match. Daniela missed a few 2nd serve returns that game.

Nothing surprising about the first. Good start to the second. Muguruza lost her first 9 points on second serve, which is hard to believe.
Wow, 3 breaks in a row. Daniela needs to figure it out on her serve. It's a crazy match up to now. Both players have won well over half of their receiving points. No DirecTV for me tonight. Keep me posted with details, guys.
Second set in the bag! That's the first time in heaven knows when that Dani has beat up one of the young, rising power players in even a set. May this keep up!

Let's Go, Daniela!

Momentum back with Muguruza URGH

A shame these two have playing each other only in the 2nd round...both very enjoyable to watch when they play well.

It's all Muguruza now as she's smashing the ball again like in the first set and Daniela's hitting double faults...a real shame that it's not closer in the 3rd set 0-3 and a double break down...

Well, there goes the little form she was able to get in the 2nd. I think I'll stop watching.

It was a valiant effort from Daniela really it was...the 2nd set was great but Muguruza really played her "A" game in the 3rd. The first set Daniela was so slow to start off the match and that's what she needs to improve on.

And she didn't hang her head once in the match no matter what the scoreline...I think she has been told to keep a positive attitude more in matches. She fought right to the end saving all those match points which is really pleasing.

I think there are a lot of positives from this tournament and indeed the opening to the new season. She won a match in each of the tournaments and hopefully now can use this as a springboard for Pattaya and go on a decent run there.

Keep up the hard work Daniela, your tennis is improving...

Well... as usual she played good in patches. Much better than I expected, but her ranking will make her face off this opponents in the early rounds.

Muguruza played well today and her power gave Daniela problems. The third set should have been closer but Daniela made a few too many errors in it while Muguruza always seemed to come up with a winner or a big shot when she needed one. Daniela actually hit as many winners as Muguruza and she hit some beautiful shots but she made more errors and that was ultimately the difference. She kept fighting and the last game was the longest of the match. If she had broken, especially after Muguruza had had all these MPs then she could have launched a comeback as Muguruza wobbled in the second set and she was getting frustratred.
Muguruza will give anyone here a tough match and she's going to be very difficult to beat.

There's still the doubles and Daniela did better than Ivanovic or Jankovic.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

To (unforced) err is human. To ( :wall: :wall:and then) forgive is a Daniela fan.
Thanks for the tip on the stream, Chungwit, but I have no luck with streams. I shall then surmise that the ton of UE came from Daniela's long standing tendency to think her best chance for an upset or a comeback is to go for it on a lot of points. Just like you, eddy, I see some positive things. As mentioned previously, it was good to see Dani kick butt against one of the young guns in the second set; a long time coming. And I took a lot of solace out of the 4 MP she fought off; that's the Daniela I know. Now hoping for the best in doubles.

Let's Go, Daniela!
