I was at this match - She offered a good resistance to Lisicki in the first set and that's rather encouraging, despite Lisicki was not at her best. Daniela was disturbed by 2 bad calls during the set, she lost some points there. Things could have turned differently, possibly ? In the second set she lost her service game immediately, and then again... At 0-3 she seems so depressed, it was clear on her face and the issue of the match was obvious. In the morning, I watched the training session (posted photos). Excellent proximity with the players in this little tournament, that's so nice... The interview posted by DANiandDELmania in another thread is interesting. |

I know should be in the videos thread but thought it more appropriate to put in here. Daniela talking I think post 1st round match about how her injuries really blighted her year. And she just wants to be healthy next season! So pleased she seems to want to continue!! |

It's amazing how often this year someone plays great against Daniela and then is rubbish the next match. Allertova played well and hit some good shots but Lisicki hardly got any first serves in, hit quite a few double faults and made loads of errors. Daniela will be playing at Necker Cup (AKA rich people mucking around on a desert island) and the IPTL, her IPTL team's called the Slammers but it should be the Singapore Slings. Daniela only has her Australian Open points to defend until April so she has a lot of opportunities to gain points and go back up the rankings but she'll have to qualify for a lot of tournaments unless she can get wildcards. Hopefully she can rest and recover from the ailments she has during the off season. We'll see what happens with the IPTL, it'll be interesting if nothing else. |
