The good thing is that Daniela's already gone a round further than she did a year ago. She really could do with a run here to get some points for a seeding at Roland Garros and it's always great when she wins. We'll see what the draws like but if she can play well she can put a run in. Daniela will have had a few days to practice beforehand and get used to the conditions which she didn't have last year.

Well Daniela's draw couldn't really be much worse..

1st round Q
2nd round Sharapova
3rd Round Ivanovic
QF Halep or Venus
SF Serena

Qualifier will be tough. If Daniela manages 2nd round can only hope Maria is tired from Madrid. Not sure they've met on clay...

Well, this isn't exactly the gold paved Appian Way! Whoever miss Q ends up being, Daniela will have to beat her, and even then she only gains 40 points (she got 20 from qualifiers last year).
This is so remindful of 2011. Dani was ranked around 30 just like now, and kept getting draws like this. But, between February and June when her form was incredible, she was beating top players with regularity. We all feel that there's been improvement in her form in recent weeks. She is way overdue to beat a big name or two. Why not start now? Gotta beat the qualifier first, but it would be great if she gets a shot at Sharapova, just to see where Daniela stands.

The top half of the draw is absolutely stacked. Figures that Daniela would be drawn there.

Daniela just has to focus on beating the qualifier and you never know with qualifiers. Shazza will be very tough, especially given Daniela's record against her and I heard during Stuttgart that Shazza has the best winning percentage on clay amongst active players, which was a wee bit of a surprise. Daniela has to win her first round before thinking about anyone else.

Daniela's got Monica Puig in the first round. Puig beat Pereira and Mladenovic in qualifying, both in straight sets. She hasn't done too much the rest of the time, she lost to Cetkovska in the first qualifying round in Madrid and she lost to Jovanovski in the 1st round in Oerias. Her best win this year was beating Rybarikova in Miami.

Puig has had some good wins, she beat Errani at Wimbledon and Petrova at Roland Garros last year so she can step up her level in big matches and she'll have a bit of momentum from her wins in qualifying. Puig's got to be respected but I really have to favour Daniela. Daniela has to focus on this match and bring her best tennis.

Puig is now coached by Ricardo Sanchez, just to add a little extra spice to the occasion.

Daniela's playing doubles with Mirjana Lucic-Baroni and they start against King & Zheng. Winner of that plays Hingis & Lisicki or Black & Mirza.

Daniela's doubles match is first on Court 3, play starts at 11am.

One of the kinder qualifiers Daniela could have gotten. Also am glad that Daniela gets a go at doubles before singles as that should help her get used to the courts in a match situation before her match against Puig on Tuesday.

Good win in the doubles 7-6(1) 6-1.

From what I've seen of her,Puig is a pure, unreconstructed ball basher. Hope she misfires tomorrow.

Never a bad thing to awaken to a doubles win for Dani. It's much more important to get up tomorrow to news of a win over Puig. Let the good times roll!

A good win in doubles. It's always nice to start the tournament with a win and Daniela & Lucic-Baroni won a close first set, by dominating the tie-break and then they raced through the second set. She got to play on the courts and get used to the conditions before singles and it's a good start to the week.

A great win in doubles. I think Lucic and Daniela is a really good combo. Potentially Hingis and Lisicki next!
