As the #12 seed, Daniela has drawn American wild card Shelby Rogers first. She is #110, and has played in 4 events this year, plus one ITF tourney. 2 years ago she beat Madison Keys, and has wins over Glushko and Dolonc. Most of her career has been at the ITF level. Being that this is Daniela she's playing, guess what, guys? In all 5 events this year, she has won her first match, then lost her second. Guess what else? She has a wild card because she lives in (drum roll, please).......... Charleston, South Carolina! (Does this never end?) If Dani can overcome these ominous omens, she would next get a qualifier, and if she got on a roll and seeding holds up, it would be #8 seed Sorana Cirstea, then someone who spells Cirstea's first name slightly differently; last name of Williams. On paper, a really good chance for Daniela to gain a lot of points. All we can do is hope. |

It's not the worst draw. Daniela should be able to beat Rogers although I was hoping she'd avoid an American, but Daniela should have too much experience. Still Rogers has to be respected and she'll have quite a bit of home support. We'll see who the qualifier is and the third round opponent is seeded to be Cirstea who'll be tough. Serena Williams will be extremely difficult in the quarter-final but I'll be delighted if Daniela gets that far as it would mean she'll have won as many matches this tournament as she has in the rest of the year. Daniela just has to focus on beating Rogers and take things one match at a time. Given her recent form every win she gets is a bonus. |

Daniela's doubles partner this week is………close your eyes, what do you see? She might get into a news story regarding doubles, however, since our loveable Swiss Miss won today after being down a set. I am interested in whether Hingis: 1. Disses Daniela, even in some clandestine way. 2. Gives Dani an even tiny thanks for talking her into returning. 3. Doesn't bring her up at all. Sigh. In the Forum, one must learn to be able to absorb countless punches to the gut. |

Daniela's not playing doubles this week. I think it's a good decision as she could do with the rest. Parra Santonja's playing with Erakovic this week so we'll see if Daniela stays with Parra Santonja in future or goes with a new partner. |

Cruel irony Hingis winning Miami...and Lisicki said that Hingis and Lisicki were in talks playing doubles back 2013 wimbledon last year...so maybe Hingis wasn't that excited playing with Daniela in the first place...like I said WTA tour sucks big time right now... Anyway a pretty good draw for first few rounds but Rogers won't be a pushover that's for sure... |

No match tomorrow. Gotta wait until Tuesday. My stomach is already in knots. Considering Daniela's losing streak and her FB posts this past week, I feel that I'll be rooting harder for Dani than ever before (with very few exceptions, of course), and will be about as nerved up when the match starts as I've ever been. Hoping that every Daniela fan everywhere funnels positive vibes her way. |

1st set to Daniela! First good signs in awhile, as she trailed 5-4, then went break/hold/break (2-2 on break points). |

Any stream that works smoothly? All the ones I've found are not working well at all..thank goodness Daniela won that first set...a messy match methinks... |

Yeah! Shout from the highest mountain! I told Dani to never give up on the good times! Now, I don't think she's fully straightened out yet, and Rogers certainly helped out. She had 3 games serving for a set and never even reached a set point. But still, 2 comebacks by Daniela; the fighting spirit lives! |

That's a great win there! Don't care how low Rogers is ranked, but Daniela played really smart at the end of both sets. She should play like that all the time. The rest of the match was pretty bad and Daniela had a terrible service patch where she served 3 doubles... She had the perfect balance between agression and moving the ball around with angles and depth. Was really beautiful to see. Have to say Rogers played extremely well and it really shows just how good young Americans are at the moment. Next up another American....Grace Min ranked #159.... |
