Daniela, we love you, Yeah, yeah Yeah YEAH!!
It was elementary, guys. My Dear Watson, you are gone! I am pissed at two things, though, One is DirecTV, who put 6 other matches on but not this one. The other thing was that at the beginning of the match and the third set, Watson was the betting favorite. Try lotto tickets, you fools!
Of course Dani scared the bejabbers out of us. Par for the course. But when it counted late in the first and third , she was clutch. 2 1st round wins in a row in majors……I will take it! :coool:

I thought she'll win in 2 but with lots UE (both players) she didn't managed to get it..3rd set looks better with some good wins..she still needs to work hard since her next opponent only lost 1 game..less UE and a good serve will make Dani win..though she some aces but most where in 150kph-ish.. But well done Dani..you made our day beautiful!..

Did you noticed that her shoes got her logo initials?..love it Adidas!

This was a pretty good result to wake up to. I was looking forward to the match when I suffered a power cut so I went to sleep and so I had a really nice result to wake up to. Daniela's first serve stats are pretty good with 68% in, winning 78% although she only won 38% of her 2nd serve points and Watson won 4 out of 7 BP chances while Daniela won 5 of 13. Daniela won more points, she had 37 winners to 44 errors which against a retriever as good as Watson is fairly good. What's really pleasing is that Daniela saved her best stuff till the third set. Watson was a qualifier but she's a much better player than her ranking and Daniela really fought hard to get through this match and if she was going to have a run at any of the Australian tournaments, it might as well be in Melbourne. I am so happy for Daniela, this is a really good win for her and will give her confidence a big boost.

Hantuchova was never triumph over Watson satisfied. "It was not easy lineup in the first round against a qualifier. Watson was thawed on the court, which is much faster than in previous years. It took me until I got used in exchanges, but luckily I made it. Grandslamoch the first round are rather militancy as a good game. I think today decided patience and experience. at an important moment, I neunáhlila and I made it to the forehand errors. SUPERKOV not surprise me nothing, stir well and servovala. knew what play it and that the road to success leads through her forehand, which is also confirmed," she said in a conference call with the media Slovak Hantuchova, who is already looking forward to the match with Karolina Pliskova. "Carolina fast courts comply, good service and plays aggressively. Important thing is that I was well on his feet."

"It certainly was not easy 1 round. She was in fact Serve on these courts, which are much faster than in recent years. It took me a little while I got used in exchanges. I'm glad I finally won a procedure. These opening matches at Grand Slam events are more about militancy as a good game. Decided in my favor patience and experience. In important moments I neunáhlila. I tried to play as many exchanges and force grueling errors especially the forehand. I knew exactly what would it be true," said Daniela Hantuchova in a conference telephone Slovak media.

Carolina, the courts are certainly meet, are very fast. She Quality Service and generally behaves aggressively. It will be important to be well on their feet and also play aggressively. Already looking forward to that game, " noted D. Hantuchova, who is in Brisbane and Sydney Lucia in round 1: "These tournaments are introductory to a man played the most matches, because after preparing it still jump. Of those two losses I have not done, however, to such a heavy head. Significant was that I was lifted off well today, which I did. victory really appreciate. Probably the most important for me now is to transfer natrénované from training to matches. working with new coach a lot of things, and certainly it is not yet perfect. Nevertheless, I must be patient and wait, when it begins to show. "

Danielathon redux: The first 2 matches on Court 3 were finished while Dani's was still up for grabs at 4-3 in the third. :P Wouldn't we love to see what Daniela's record is in matches lasting 2 1/2 hours or longer? Particularly since her 2011 renaissance, I would think it's very good. Always good to see when all the grueling training and practice she endures pays off. Especially when, being out there for so long, she gets the biggest service break of the match and serves it out at love!

After digesting your posts about the ability of Watson, while I felt fairly confident (or as much as a long-term Dani fan is able to be  ), there was the usual dread of a one and done possibility. So I pulled out all the stops, guys! I took my Daniela trading card, which is always lying flat on a stand next to the bed, and stood it up. In addition to the usual musical selections that run through my warped mind due in a match (It Don't Come Easy, We'll Be Signing When We're Winning, Let The Good Times Roll) and the countless Let's Go Daniela chants, I added Gerry Rafferty (If You Get It Wrong You'll Get It Right Next Time) and my adapted version of She Loves You. All thank you will be graciously accepted……It feels good to believe that I made a contribution to the cause! (I don't see a smilie for Looney Tunes or I'd put it here!)

Looks like Vinci and particularly Errani will be seeing the same people on the way down as they dissed on the way up. Do you think each of them has interest in the ongoing saga of Alex Rodriguez?

Pliskova, a young lefty, ranks #123. The only signature win I could find for her was a 1st round KO of Georges in New York in 2012. She slaughtered Parmentier in an ITF at Nassau Bahamas, also in 2012, so this might be a matchup thing. Daniela's never gone up against her. She has an ITF title or two, but no regular titles. They're all dangerous, but I would think a neutral observer would make our gal the favorite.

Didn't Daniela play Pliskova in Dubai qualifying last year? I think Daniela won 6-4 in the 3rd..

Correct. Watching the first round match in a stress-free environment,Daniela really did play very well in that 3rd set-and moved very slickly around the court as well. Encouraging signs. :)

Didn't Daniela play Pliskova in Dubai qualifying last year? I think Daniela won 6-4 in the 3rd.. She plays Kateryna Pliskova next which will be much tougher.

You've confusing the heck out of me! My earlier synopsis was for Kateryna Pliskova. Is that who Daniela is facing, or is it Karolina? If so, she did beat her in Dubai. Karolina is #70 and did have a couple of very nice wins last year over Kanepi in Poland and Petrova at Wimbledon, and she does have a title on the regular tour (Kuala Lumpur last year over Mattek-Sands). She had never faced Parmentier until yesterday. I'll stand corrected, but I'll stay with my notion that a neutral observer would favor Daniela.

I watched a bit of Pliskova, and the amusing thing is she reminds me a lot of a young Daniela-she's very tall, big booming serve(excellent kick second delivery),and tries to clump winners as soon as possible in the rally. She's also less mobile than an arthritic sloth,so provided Daniela can return well,I fancy her chances of victory.

The twins are Katerina Pliskova and Kristina Pliskova.

Daniela will be playing Katerina (who has the better ranking) and they played in Dubai qualies last year.

Thanks, guys. It occurred to me that trying to figure out which Pliskova Daniela will face very much beats the alternative (no opponent at all)! :)

You had to have noted that in one of her recent interviews, Daniela revealed that she will play mixed with Leander Paes, he of the 7 mixed Slam and 15 total doubles Slam championships. This is one amazing, loaded with mixed Slam titles and experience, pairing. There is beginning to be a feeling, at least from this Maniac, that this could be a big couple of weeks for our gal.

Pliskova will have a lot of confidence from her first round win and she also gave Daniela a really tough match in Dubai last February so she'll feel confident about her chances and she has to be respected.
Daniela got a tough win in the first round where she had to battle and getting a win like that will be a boost to her confidence. She's also played and beaten Pliskova before so Pliskova won't be a total unknown. Daniela has the day off the recover from the first round so she'll be fresh for the second round. It'll be a tough match but Daniela has so much experience of matches like this.
